onlyfire Upgraded Heavy‑Duty Stainless Steel Charcoal Ash Basket

I have a Kamado Joe Classic 2 and one of the first upgrades I wanted was a new ash basket. I didn't want to pay the higher price for the Kick Ash basket and after a bit of research decided on this one. I can't compare it to the Kick Ash basket since I've never owned one but I can say I'm very happy with the performance of this one so I don't need to worry about it. The basket is made of quality materials and feels both solid and durable. It fits my Kamado Joe Classic grill perfectly and has so far provided great value for the money I paid for it. If you want a good ash basket for your Kamado style grill and don't want to pay the higher price of the more popular name brand one then this is a great fit for you.

I have had a Kamado Joe since 2012 and have had to deal with removing the cast iron grate to clean the ash from my grill after cooks. Having to pull out the remaining lump charcoal by hand was dirty and time consuming. This basket eliminates that and I can keep my grill cleaner between cooks than I would have been able to before with the stock setup. Is this a "knock-off" of the Kick Ash basket? Probably. But it is built very well, and is quite heavy. I have not noticed any problems with it at all and the increased airflow makes temperature control much, much easier. And, as mentioned earlier, clean-up between cooks is a breeze. When cooking steaks via reverse sear method, this basket allows me to quickly and easily bring the temps up to searing levels. I'm sold on this thing, it has been a solid investment so far.

Took a cutoff wheel and removed the handles from the basket. After the change, the basket works great. The handles were in the way on my kamado joe grill. Its holding up well and makes cleaning in between grillings a lot easier.

I had considered a kick-ash basket for a while, but the price was always a little hard to justify. Yeah, yeah I know. $1200 grill problems. I consider myself to be selectively cheap. I just couldn't see spending that much on a wire basket. Then along came this one... As far as I can tell, it does the same thing for half the price. Bye bye, factory stock fireplate and the associated airflow problems. I can tell a major difference in airflow. Whereas before it was hard to get up above 425 and impossible to get much above 500-550, now I can get my KJ2 up to 750+ for great pizzas. I've actually had it above 800 for a few minutes, until the charcoal burned down. 425 for burgers used to take 45-60 minutes of preheating. Now I can get there in 10-15 minutes. The only downside with switching to a basket is that you have to relearn your grill. My vent settings are totally different. The natural draft is so good now that the fire will slowly drift hotter without touching the vents. Even my digiq has trouble maintaining temps some days even with no gasket leaks. This can be a problem for low and slow cooks, but it doesn't happen frequently. It makes burgers and steaks faster and easier though. Until you use an ash basket, you don't realize how much airflow gets restricted as the charcoal burns and the ash builds up on a stock fireplate. This basket is awesome 5/5.

Fits right, doesn’t interfere with ceramic deflectors or original ash drawer. Easiest clean out possible. Easier starting and temp control. Win-win!

Great basket that promotes air flow in the Kamado. I’ve used this about 20 times or more and still no warping or melting of the basket. Highly recommend

This is a must have for a Kamado Joe classic. It makes cleaning the ashes after a cook a breeze! Im surprised the kamados don’t already come with this, but man, worth every penny

Fit in my BGE perfectly

I bought this to install in my 18" Kamado Joe. It fits best when you remove the factory metal grill at the bottom, but it will fit if you don't take it out too. You may just have to bend the handles on the basket or else deal with your grates being a little higher up. I eventually removed the thick metal grill and airflow is much better. No reason to go back. I used it throughout the winter when it was -20 celcius and when it was 30 degrees above. I notice that when I light a chimney inside, I let it burn for exactly 10 mins and then dump it in and I know the preset airflow settings to dial it in to 225 F within minutes and using this basket helps dial it in quicker than using the standard grill. So if you want to have an easier time lighting your egg BBQ, buy one of these and you won't regret it.

So awesome! Got rid of the cast round part on my KJ Classic 2. This makes cleaning and emptying simple. Just lift and shake.

Fits really nicely with room around it for air flow. From The first time I used it you could tell it was helping to regulate the temperature. This really helps with the airflow so I found I had to adjust my fence to a narrower position As it was so efficient. Cleaning the Astros out afterwards was a breeze and I’m able to look down into the ash Ketchum area and get it super clean which also helps with the airflow. I would highly recommend this accessory
