Men's Steampunk Gentlemen Costume, Brown/Black, One Size

mens steam punk costume
For the money - it's a great costume. Material is thin, so it's great for summer festivals. My son is 6 feet tall and the pants were long enough. He has a long torso, so the top is a little short in the body and arms for him. But layering another shirt under it will solve that.

What do you want for $40?
This is what I would consider a typical inexpensive costume meaning it serves it purpose for one night and by the end of the night it falls apart. It's not made too bad, but you have to be careful as the buttons are hanging by a thread and can easily fall off. It looked pretty good once it was on, but the top coat was snug and the pants were a little big. The spats made it look a lot better, but again, the fake buttons were popping off as the night went on. Would I buy it again? Sure. Just don't have any expectations for it to last and last.

The standard size did not fit me. I am ...
The standard size did not fit me. I am a 5'9'' male weighing about 170 lbs. The jacket was very large and the sleeves looked weird with the gathered seem. Also with this you only receive the JACKET and PANTS, nothing else.

The "fit" is the real issue, the quality is as expected. A few tips and tricks also...
As you've read in some reviews, you do get what you pay for so I can't and won't complain about the materials used, the thinness of the cloth, etc. It is precisely as expected in that regard. You can definitely see through it (it's a bit sheer) and you need a shirt / undershirt under the "jacket" because it's very itchy/rough fabric. For those who have mentioned how wrinkled the costume was, I do NOT recommend ironing (the poly is so thin you could actually melt it). I did find that 5 minutes in a hot dryer got about 90% of the wrinkles out.HOWEVER, when it comes to fit, buyer beware. I have seen reviews from people who said they were short or tall or thin or thick saying it fit fine or did not fit at all. This illustrates one very important fact: Due to the inexpensive nature of this product, there is little emphasis placed on consistency of fit or placement of embellishments by the manufacturer. You have NO way of knowing if you will get one that will fit a tall guy, short guy or someone with a long torso. My husband is 5'6", wears 34/35" pants with a 31" inseam. Large shirt because he likes my cooking and he has a bit of a tummy, but could wear a medium otherwise (I tell you this so you can gauge shoulders/chest). NOT a big guy! The costume pants on my husband were SO TIGHT, he would would have burst the seems if he'd tried to sit, bend or squat. In addition, the pants have faux leather looking chaps (see picture of model) that should have hit thigh level. I could accept them slipping towards the knees on a shorter guy. But these were way down on the calves (which means if you buy the spats, they will cover the embellishments). And there was no way you could pull these pants up higher (even if they hadn't been so tight) because there is only 11" between the crotch and the waist. The length is "one size fits most" so shorter guys will need to cut, hem or roll them. Taller guys will be fine. The jacket was ridiculously roomy in comparison to the pants. Could easily have fit a L/XL guy. The issue, as mentioned by a few others, is that this type of jacket style means it is cut higher in the front... and should be hitting you at the waist band of the pants. But, due to the construction of the pants and the inability to pull them up, you are likely to have a 1" to 3" gap between the bottom of the jacket and the top of the pants. Which does look a bit odd if you have a bit of a gut. You should wear a black t-shirt under the jacket to fill in the gap between it and the top of the pants.I would say if you are lean (33" waist or less) and have long legs/thighs, you'd be okay in the pants that WE got.. and many of the pants some other reviewers got (still not sure about the embellishment placement though). If you are broad shouldered, you'll also be fine in the jacket. Most people, regardless of height will have the jacket/pant gap.The style is good but up close and personal the cheapness of it is evident. For a $31 costume, just as you'd expect. And worth it.. if you can wear the entire costume. Not worth it if you have to use your own pants, because they don't "match".Tip: Definitely buy the spats, black or brown look fine. They help pull together the costume and only cost about $11. That being said, the pants are slippery poly and the spats slide down on them a bit... so I suggest getting some super sticky hem tape from the Target sewing notions area or a fabric store... $3... and using it to keep the spats stuck to the pants (and also for hemming the pants themselves if you aren't good with a needle and thread).Good luck!

Snug... but wearable
The outfit definitely has the steampunk flare, but the sizing has issues. You get what you get when it comes to one size fits all, but be aware of a few things... If you do not have a flat abdominal area it's going to show a lot due to the very high cut top and low cut waist. Also, there is zero crotch room. As in you will be very displeased if you try to pull up your pants any. Regardless what the picture shows, you only receive the pants and shirt. The spats, hat, goggles, cane, mustache, and monocle hanging on the front will not be there. Reading the description I understood most of that, however, the monocle chain appeared attached and it wasn't mentioned. It just looked like part of the outfits decor. The fabric is very thin and other than a party/Halloween use is probably best kept as such.

Great price and great 2 piece set
Great price and great 2 piece set! I was glad it was true to the Men's sizing of 40-42...my son is 18 and has a stocky build! Not junior sizing anymore ;) I was worried it might not fit well and it was perfect!

They must ship different sizes
I read through all the reviews prior to placing an order. I saw people who were significantly shorter and probably thinner then I am. I am 6'5" and over 200 lbs. I was afraid it was going to be way too small for my height and weight. Its actually huge. Says it fits chest up to 42". They either send out different sizes or people are trying to give themselves a few pounds and a few inches. I am thinking about trying to wash this in warm water to make it slightly smaller. The patches on the legs are definitely at the knee even been 6'5". They are quite the long length but if you like the costume, you can always roll up the legs or pull up the waist. This does seem extremely baggy too and once again I am not the thinest person. It does look like the picture, just has been shipped so its wrinkled. For $32 its going to be that way. Get the Spats (I did) and I did other accessories that aren't even suggested to spice it up. Worth the $32 or so that I paid. If your expecting a costume that looks tailored to fit like the photo and aren't paying a lot more money for it, your complaints shouldn't hit the review site. Its exactly what you paid for.

Great for my wedding!
Included various sizes and had way more than I thought it would from the picture. Very happy so far. Also includes a few tiny ones, which is great for me because I wanted to use some to decorate my face for my Halloween wedding.
