Gibson's Learn & Master Guitar(Book and DVD)

I have bought a number of guitar tutorials in the past and they have been in book or video form, but none can compare to this. It,s great reputation is certainly justified if you are prepared to put the time and energy into astering guitar. The approach is slow and methodical and the aim is to teach properly by learning to read music as well as play it. This set of dvd's, cd's and book will on average take most players through their first year of playing and what a great start it is. Thoroughly recommended.

This is a brilliant resource of book, DVD's to watch & play along with & CD jam-along tracks to ensure you play at the right tempo. I endured 18 months of lessons at a local Yamaha school and didn't learn any of the items in the first 4 chapters! The standard edition is very good but I would recommend the extended version if you can stretch the budget. The bonus resource video play-alongs are gratis in the extended version. Whilst you can download the PDF printable resources off the Gibson website you miss out on the bonus videos and extra practice. Standard edition to be good; Extended edition to be better! I really like the extra features too with a tour of the Gibson factory being a highlight. If you want to be able to read music, play guitar fast and truly master this instrument there is no better resource for the beginner. Ensure you have a metronome to hand to check your consistency...guessing you are playing to time just won't cut it when you play with other musicians!

Starts from complete basics, I like the reasurrances that I'll get better. Gives the opportunity to relearn the basics of music as well as play the instrument. Having looked further into the accompanying book and DVD's, at the moment all seems a bit daunting. I like the jam along CD's. I've also aquired the supporting book of extra tasks and practice sessions. Determined to get somewhere with this instrument I use this as my main source of learning and use it for daily practice sessions. The programme is well put together and easy to follow, also includes some good DVD footage and insight into Gibson Guitars. Don't think I'll ever match the Tutor though !!!

Dear Amazonauts, I adhere to all the good reviews this product received. It is indeed a very good, if not excellent, 'private tutor' and you will not only learn a lot, but above all enjoy it a lot. Tiny complaint: this is not the DVD version with the bonus materials (this product is advertised on the manual and DVD's). I strongly recommend following the link included in the written material: you will have the chance to (legally, of course) download for free the bonus e-book (PDF) that has many more exercises - it's the e-book that comes with the bonus materials DVD's, I think. Now, the Windows Media Center / Media Player issue: On my Win7 machine, neither WMC or WMP would reproduce the first DVD. Simply use VLC (VideoLAN); I won't post the link, but Google it. With this alternative media player everything worked perfectly, as it did in my PS3 system. In sum, buy, learn and enjoy! Thank you for reading!

I find this set to be all I was after. The DVDs are so well structured, it almost feels as though you are really sitting down in front of your guitar teacher. At first, I wasn't sure I would be satisfied with it especially as it did sound a little too pricey. But I think if you really are serious about your desire to learn playing a guitar properly, than don't hesitate to spend a little more than the average DVDs out there which are not as good as this set!

This is great package good starter kit but I must tell you this will teach you but you will have. To put the time in and don't by pass things learn 1 then go to next very 2 it's going to be slow but you will get there in the end

I have been learning to play the Piano with the Learn and Master course for about 5 years and it is truly brilliant so far I haven't progressed that far with this, it is excellent particularly as it is not encouraging tab dependance, the only thing is the music is a little US patriot boring so you will need to add a little extra to your repertoire to maintain interest. But realistically there is no reason why you could not become a guitarist from this course and that's what is important.

I am very glad I purchased this package. I'm 40 + and I've been thinking to play guitar for years. Because I had problems finding a good and willing teacher, I bought this package. The package includes a book a dozen DVDs and some playalong CDs. he pace of lessons is good for a beginner guitarist to follow. In the book and the lessons is also taken into account the fact that certain things are not immediately succeed, so you know that you don't have to become frustrated It is only a pity that the bonus tracks releatief expensive compared to the purchase of the package. Excellent product. The learning is extremely in-depth, and the beauty of a DVD-based lesson is you can pause, replay, etc., as needed. The website for this system has a vibrant forum of people also working through the course. I really love that this course includes music reading, which many cheaper/free online courses do not include. There seems to be more depth here than what you can find online. Many people who have played a guitar for a month even without any lessons at all will breeze through the first session, but will find out this course's true value with the second: learning to read music. So many other courses totally forego that important subject. So many YouTube teachers do a quick lesson on what is session 1 in this book, then skip all the way to what is session 5 in this course, in the space of a 10 minute YouTube video. To me, learning to read and relate those notes to guitar is important, and I am so thankful that it is covered in great detail in this book. One thing I learned in college is not everyone is qualified to teach just because they're an expert on a particular subject. Anyone who's spent any length of time on YouTube looking at guitar beginner lessons can certainly attest to that as well. The teacher in this system is certainly qualified to teach. The videos are expertly edited and produced, and the accompaniment materials (bonus CDs, lesson book) are top notch. This isn't a cheap kit, but it's less expensive than one-on-one lessons with a professional, and you get your money's worth with it compared to free YouTube lessons and $20 songbooks for beginner guitarists. I should mention the obvious and say that this course is not a replacement for practice and determination. People have learned guitar for generations without any help, and this is just one more tool available to new players. I've only just started and already I've exceeded the skills I learned with 6 months of self learning with YouTube videos and beginner's books from YouTubers who have published books (one in particular has an English accent).
