The Nepenthe Park Chronicles is a gloriously subversive novel set on one of London's most deprived kitchen-sink estates. Lollipop is a disconsolate twenty-year old, crippled by inertia, devoid of any cogent orientation. He and his peers are torn between the immediacies of the grind and the contentions of their everyday strife. Beautifully but belligerently written, this is a bold, self-assured work by Ali Kinteh.
