Motion and Light Sensor P2, Matter over Thread, Requires Thread Border Router, Motion Detector with Light Sensor, for Various Automations, Supports Apple Home, Google Home, Alexa and SmartThings

The Aqara Motion and Light Sensor P2 (Matter over Thread) has been excellent in day-to-day use. Detection is fast, reliable, and noticeably quicker than older Zigbee sensors I’ve used. Motion triggers feel near-instant, and the built-in light sensor adds that extra layer of automation intelligence. Battery life has been solid so far, and the device itself is compact and discreet — easy to tuck away without it looking like you’ve installed security for a small airport. Matter pairing was straightforward and it integrated nicely into my smart home setup. Once connected, it’s stable and responsive. However — and this is important — Thread isn’t magic Wi-Fi. You absolutely need to respect Thread’s distance and mesh requirements. If you don’t have a proper Thread border router nearby (and enough Thread devices to form a mesh), range can be limited. It’s not going to punch through multiple thick walls just because it says “Matter” on the box. Once placed within a sensible range of a border router, it’s rock solid. But if you’re planning to stick it in a far corner of the house with no Thread infrastructure nearby, expect disappointment. So: - Fast motion detection - Light sensor is genuinely useful - Matter over Thread works well - Placement and mesh planning matter If you already have a decent Thread network, this is a fantastic sensor. Just don’t treat Thread like long-range Wi-Fi and you’ll be very happy. Would absolutely buy more — just strategically.

This sensor is useless. It gives too many false positives and not viable at all as a security sensor. Better add few more bucks and get a better one from other vendors. This is a big let down from Aqara as I have been an avid user of their products.

I was able to add this to Homekit and Home Assistant with ease! Positives - Small footprint compared to Eve Motion - Cheaper than Eve Motion - Matter over thread Negatives - Sticky pads needed if you want to mount it somewhere - Unable to change sensor settings without yet unreleased aqara hub (9/4/2024) - Light sensor only updates when motion is triggered Hopefully in the future Aqara hub won't be needed to change settings. Eve Motion lets you change settings with Eve app. Maybe in the future Home Asisstant Matter support it will let you change settings.

Excellent, rapid sensor. Connects with matter so no need to use a manufacturer app, straight into HomeKit. Replaced an Eve motion sensor which never worked this well. Battery life to be decided. It says up to 5 yrs. Battery easy to switch though.

I’m into my smart home and recently started doing more with automation. This motion sensor is great and it detects motion and lux light levels that allowed me to create an automation to turn on my lights if it detects motion and the light lux level is at a certain measure. Easy to use and set up with the Aqara ecosystem and the price is good for what it does. Very happy with This product

Not that impressed. Slower than the 4 IKEA matter over thread devices I bought, same features, and 4x the price. If I hadn't already stuck it to the wall I would return it

Overpriced, slow to respond using Amazon Echo. Obscure that Aqara Hub 2 and E1 doesn't support this device. Poor setup having to add not as Aqara device but as type *Other*.

Good responsetime from the sensor and as always with Aqare products works flawlessly when it comes to pairing and day to day use

I would reccomend these but also depends on what you’re using these for, I easily connected them to my aqara hub and haven’t had any issues with them disconnecting from my hub, and the battery life seems to be very long because they’ve been running for months without any issues. I also love the stick on feature it’s just like 3m tape you stick it to the wall easily and it works as intended. I designed it to turn on certain lights when motion is detected in a room, or to record a video when motion is detected in a certain area, making it great for security and they’re very small and look cool on the wall but also barely noticeable, if you have the hub and have other aqara accessories this pairs very well with them and the automations you can create are pretty cool, but if you don’t have the aqara brand products or hub I don’t know how well it works or if it would work at all.

El sensor es más pequeño de lo que parece, detecta luz y movimiento y se puede integrar con HomeKit. Costó un poco que lo identificara pero al final lo conseguí. Buen precio durante Black Friday
