Metal Tripod Mount Ring for Sony FE 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6 G OSS(SEL70300G)

This is a beefy, overbuilt collar, and that is perfect! Fits snuggly, without damaging the lens, and does not slip. Yes, if you have larger fingers, you may not be able to use the grip on a a6x00 series, but I hold the camera by the lens when I have the 70-300 attached anyway. Thus mount actually makes holding it by hand easier.As for doing what it is designed for, it works perfectly. It distributes the weight farther forward, and allows my tripod to keep the lens steady.

This is a great add-on, smartly crafted to go in the only space a collar can go on this lens. The fit is snug, as it should be, and padded so it doesn’t damage the lens. The mount is as secure as any OEM collar and lens combo. It does this while still maintaining access to the lens buttons. I rated it as 4 instead of 5 stars due to the limited space near the grip on the A7R II camera (which is the exact same size as the A7II and A7SII so the experience is the same on them). This may be better on the slightly larger mark III bodies. On the mark II series, you cannot fully grip the camera (more of a fingertip grip) because the collar consumes most of the space between the mount and the grip. That said, the collar still perfectly fit my needs for tripod shooting where it greatly increases the center balance and reduces stress on the mount. Additionally, it’s easy to remove it to restore the normal grip space for walk around (no tripod) shooting.

This item is well built using quality materials. It fit the 70-300mm lens perfectly. However, once attached to the lens and attached to my Sony a6500 it is impossibly to use the camera grip as it severely reduces the space between the camera grip and the lens. I will only be able to use this with a remote control cable while mounted on a tripod.

A day or two after I bought my Sony FE 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6, I wisely ordered the DSLRKIT Metal Tripod Mount Ring for it. The ring is $pendy but so far as I am concerned worth every dime because of the custom casting, fine machining, and the custom cutout for the three control switches on the lens barrel. The controls themselves are extremely important and must be reachable at all times. The switch for auto or manual focus is on the barrel, not controlled in the menu, and so is the switch from stabilization to no stabilization, especially important when on a tripod. I blanched at the price and looked at cheaper ones, but finally decided there was no sense spending $1,200 for a lens and going cheap on the ring mount.

This is heavy, bulky and does not allow adjustment so that the camera is straight on a tripod. Very poor design.

Overall I am pleased with this ring and it fits the lens snugly and professionally. The big arca-swiss foot is a nice inclusion. This ring mounts my lens securely to by tripod. It is a good solution for tripod mounting this lens.The reasons I only give it four stars are:- This is a tripod mounting ring, not a tripod collar. By that I mean you cannot rotate the tripod foot on the lens. The cut outs for the lens switches mean in cat only be mounted with the foot facing down (relative to the camera). If you are used to the rotating collars on Sony's G lenses or other systems, this can be a bit of a limitation. But to be fair, the product doesn't advertise that it can do this.- The other observation I have made is that because it is a separate band of metal from the lens, it heats up faster than the lens if you shoot in the sun for any extended period. It isn't a problem under normal use but I ran into this when I put the camera in the trunk of my car on a hot day. When I went to take it out, the collar was loose because it had expanded more than the other parts of the camera. I tightened it down but now the collar has a bit of a wiggle to it if forced. It isn't enough to prevent its use to get stable shots, but you can shift the ring a few mm if you force it. (To be honest, I'm not sure if that was possible before the heating or not).But, for US$40 I'm not sure I can complain. I shouldn't have heated it (or the camera) up that much. It does support the lens and it does allow me to attach it securely to the tripod. If sony had offered a collar, it would probably be $200 more.

This product makes this zoom lens usable on a tripod. The construction is solid and attractive. Someone complained that you can only use it with a tripod because of the way it obstructs the grip. Why else would you use it? Take it off when you are shooting handheld.

I would like to give a good review but the fit is not good at all. The collar will not stay snug on the lens, the thumb screw is as tight as it can get and the lens will fall out of the collar. It's a great idea and I was wanting it to work. Not sure if I got a bad one but can't return for a different one now.
