Butcher's Copy-editing Handbook
This is every bit as good as the previous edition with the bonus of the revised and updated content on digital editing and software. It's not something I use every day, it's a reference title after all, but if I have a style query, it's the first place I check - and usually find the answer really quickly. I wouldn't be without a copy of the Handbook - it's invaluable!

The most recent edition of Judith Butcher's handbook really is indispensable for anyone who is seriously involved in the business of editing. It is less discursive and rather more didactic than the Chicago Manual but its scope is broad and its reasoning is always clear. There is a very useful and succinct section on editing on-screen.

A must for all that want to learn how to do it correctly - SfEP
This wonderful lady wrote this brilliantly-fantastical book to help those in their darkest hour. She was the best teacher, mentor and friend to all of us at SfEP and we will all miss her, but her legacy lives on through her work and this inspiring book.

This book really helped me to understand copy-edition and the role of copy-editors and proofreaders. I keep checking Amazon Kindle e-book catalogue to see if it is available in e-book version and am disappointed every time it is not. When will this book be available for people who do not buy paperback versions any longer?

I'm writing this on behalf of my boss. He gave it an 80% rating (4 out of 5 stars).

Lots of good advice but...
...a bit too British. Some of the information seems specifically applicable to Cambridge University Press, and will need to be supplemented by guides to U.S. practice.
