New Paper Holders
So, as far as I can find on the internets...(take that for what you will)...cane reeds have been pesticide free for quite some time now but the "organic" label for these reeds refers to the paper holder. It seems like this is a bad idea - paper and a "wet" reed just seem like a recipe for incredible mold growth and no way to really clean the paper holder. One nice change is that the printing is now on the bark end instead of on the underside of the reed. The performance is the same as it always has been. It's not terrible but I still prefer Vandoren and/or Rico over the D'Addario reeds.

Reviewing from a beginner’s perspective
My daughter is a beginner, so we are not speaking from a lot of experience. These are priced higher than other reeds out there. They seem to be a nice quality and are individually wrapped, which I liked. But she actually prefers the less expensive ones that we have. But again — she is just learning.

Solid performer
I was not familiar with this reed for a Bb/A clarinet but I did give it a try. I am a symphonic clarinetist being principal chair for 40 years. I play Leblanc LL Symphonic clarinets with a Blayman H mouthpiece. Normally I'll use Gonzalez reeds but have had success with Vandoren Superieure reeds also. I need a smooth clean tone that has excellent response in all registers. These D'Addario reeds are quite satisfactory for intermediate to advanced clarinetists. Like most reeds they are playable as delivered but flattening the table and fine tuning the reed will enhance their tone and response. I automatically do that with any new reed. The D'Addario cane is of good quality, a bit more porous than Gonzalez but dense enough to dependably handle the upper most register (G4 and above). The chalumeau register has a full sound and not raspy. The register range of the D'Addario's I received is very satisfactory.I ordered 3.5 strength. The package as delivered was labeled 2.5. However the individual reeds (each nicely sealed in a plastic sleeve on a reed carrier) were labeled 3.5. In practice, they played as a 3.5 rather than a softer 2.5. I was quite comfortable with their hardness.Having only three reeds in the D'Addario is insufficient to make precise recommendations. Are the three I received typical, are they better than, or lower than the reeds being shipped in volume? The only way of answering that question is to use D'Addario reeds for a year or two and see how their consistency stands the test of time - and how long individual reeds last. In my case, I'll be using these D'Addario reeds in rehearsals and perhaps even performances in the coming months and years. I'd be very comfortable in suggesting that intermediate-to-advanced clarinetists give them a try also. Let me know if you agree these are in the upper class of clarinet reeds.

A Matter of Taste
WE'RE TALKING ABOUT REEDS, SO OBVIOUSLY ONE PERSON MIGHT LOVE 'EM, ONE MIGHT HATE 'EM, AND A THIRD MIGHT NOT BE EXCITED EITHER WAY, AND THEY'RE ALL CORRECT. tHESE ARE QUITE CONSISTENT REED-TO-REED, BUT THEY'RE NOT REALLY MY STYLE.
