and it still works fine. Nice sound
One of the shakers busted after about nine months. Maybe it was my grip - I'm not a percussionist - but I wasn't exactly manhandling it either. I duct taped the open end after putting all the beads back in, and it still works fine. Nice sound.

Wouldn't be without it!
This percussion instrument is my favorite. I like that the sound is not harsh and can be played so as to create slightly different effects and rhythm etc. I think it is more versatile than other percussion instruments I have had. I am in an acoustic group and we do everything from bluegrass to Latin styles in our music. This adds a fun layer of sound. I often have folks express interest in the instrument after hearing it used in our music. I actually bought this one for another member of our band who has graciously gave me his to play a few years back. Highly recommended!

Good shaker for different situations
I have been wanting a shaker for a while to play in our band. This is a good starter shaker for laying down a beat when using the Snare, Bass Drum or Djembe won't work. Having two shakers connected by a rubber band so they can be separated is also a useful feature. The only thing I would change is to have these shaker bodies made out metal (aluminium) instead of plastic. However, this might increase the cost by too much.

Shaker not loud enough for gigs.
Unfortunately, my unit separated at one of the joints. I wasn't using the Soft Shake at the time, I happened to notice a small crack and upon further inspection the unit separated at the seam. I was able to collect most of the metal flakes, put them back in, and glued the Soft Shake back together. It lasted for a while longer but eventually split open again. Maybe I got a lemon, or perhaps it was a design flaw that has since been corrected. As far as the sound, it wasn't quite loud enough for what I needed. If you're a working musician/percussionist, and need something with volume, this isn't the shaker for you. Sitting around a campfire, with a couple of acoustic guitars and no other noise, would be the perfect setting for this particular shaker.
