Showdown In Little Tokyo.Certificate: 18/R.Genre: Action.Running Time 76 Minutes.Synopsis.A raised-in-Japan L.A. supercop Chris Kenner & his new partner Japanese-American detective Johnny Murata kick into high gear to bring down a Japanese Yakuza drug ring disguised as a brewery who's leader Yoshido was responsible for murdering Kenners parents.Timelord Thoughts.I can't understand why this excellent action movie went straight to video in the UK & many European countries because Showdown In Little Tokyo is a extremely well directed highly entertaining action flick from director Mark L.Lester who previously directed the Schwarzenegger 80's action classic Commando. This is hands down my favourite Dolph Lundgren action flick made all the more entertaining because Dolph is teamed up with the late Brandon Lee who makes his US movie film debut & showcases what a promising career he would've had which was sadly cut short just three years later during the last few days of filming The Crow.Showdown In Little Tokyo is pure B' movie 90's R' rated action hokum, but very entertaining action hokum it is, this is your typical switch your brain off & go with the absurdity of it all type of movie as Dolph Lungdren plays Chris Kenner a L.A detective who was orphaned when his parents were murdered in Japan & discovers the Yakuza are muscling in on the drug trade run by Yoshido who just so happens to be the person responsible for murdering Kenner's parents.Dolph Lundgren is at his action best here & kills plenty of bad guy's in some awesome bone crunching fights scenes & shootouts while Brandon Lee adds charm & demonstrates a natural flare for action showcasing he's truly his father's son when it comes to fighting & shares a wonderful witty chemistry with Lundgren & spark off some hilariously funny one liners, there buddy/buddy cop relationship is easily one of the films highlights because it makes you care about there characters.Teaming up with new partner Johnny Murata the detective duo investigate a murder & discover it's connection to the Yakuza & decide to destroy the Yakuza drug cartel & precede to kick, punch, shoot & blow up as many bad guys as possible in some insanely adrenaline testosterone fuelled action & fight sequences that are brilliantly cut together & edited by Lester who's career deserved to go on & make better movies, Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa as Funekei Yoshida makes for a brilliant bad guy who's not your typical clichΓ© villain, this guy does his own dirty work & is not afraid to get bloody in achieving his goals of running the L.A drug trade.Does this film have any negatives? Well just one the 76 minute run time which is way to short & cut by Warner Bros because they lost faith in the movie going against Mark L. Lesters preferred 90 minute cut, the plot feels choppy as the film moves from one action scene to another without allowing audience's to catch there breath & engage in the build up in character drama & while the climatic sword fight between Kenner & Yoshida is good it's over far to quickly & the film then just ends with Kenner, Murata & Okeya walking off together.Showdown In Little Tokyo is a top draw action movie that's very underrated & unappreciated by Warner Bros, if marketed right this could've easily been Dolph Lungdrens biggest movie instead of being another straight to video release, so come on Warner Bros show this movie some love & respect & release Lesters preferred 90 minute cut because this cult action classic so richly deserves it.

Going After The Yakuza
A tough L.A. Cop takes on a new partner and they take on the Japanese mob known as The Yakuza who run the Little Tokyo district. Daft but enjoyable 90's action movie though Dolph Lundgren is wooden he does the action scenes well and the late Brandon Lee is good as his partner while the Japanese cast ham it up as the Yakuza villains. Some good action makes it watchable though it is complete tosh it's fun tosh.

LAND OF THE RISING FUN
Dans Les Griffes Du Dragon Rouge, (Showdown in little Tokyo.)The picture quality on this French release is superb, widescreen1.85:1, no black bars. Little & large mismatched cops take onthe yakuza, using martial arts and questionable acting skills.Pretty violent (i think the U.K print is trimmed but you might wantto double check that) & very enjoyable, where else are yougoing to see Dolph pick up a car?. Also one of the shortest filmsi've seen, literally don't blink or you'll miss it. 1991.Extras: sod all. Run time: (if you can call it that) 1hr 15min 23secs.

it was nicely wrapped and uncut
it was nicely wrapped with tape around, and wrapped, the film has been cut a lot, luckily it is uncut with naked scenes, and good action, and violence scenes, everything looked good and in the dvd box there is a note that says you use menus

Quality touch!
I must admit I was not expecting a foreign copy but the wrapping and a key to navigate the menu was a quality touch!
