I was thinking of a switch between the control box and the fence so my wife and I could just shut it off easily when entering the garden,12v ,amps?

There is an on/off switch on the bottom of the energizer that could be used for this purpose. Alternatively, you can attach a cut off switch to the fence wire.

Would this jolt a bear? Am looking for something to protect bees in bear country!

Yes it does ! I have it for the same reason . Keeps the bears out of my yard .

Is this unit waterproof? Can it be left in the rain?

yes. I left it out all summer without any problem. If you have a lot of thunderstorms, might want a lightening protector, otherwise it works great in all weather.

Will this item work on keep snakes out of garden area?

This product is not recommended for snakes.
