It really works
Yes, it really works. I recieved the Xtreme N 2.4GHZ antenna today and in a couple of seconds had it working. My signal strength went from "very low" to "very good". The only problem is the cord is a little short which I already knew from another reviewer. Thanks. I put the Antenna on my desk and now I can even get some of my neighbors networks. Great solution for a weak signal. Thanks. I am using this connected to a D-Link DWA-552 desktop adapter and I am getting my signal from a D-Link DIR-655. Works great.

Waste of money
I added this to a D-Link 625 in hopes of boosting the signal. It was recommended for my model router. My "bars" went from 3 or 4 (very good to excellent) to 1 to 2 (very low to low...and sometimes no signal at all!) I moved it all over the place and it stayed at a very low level. The antenna that came with the router was much better. I am returning it.

Doesn't Boost the signal significantly as desired!
I installed this antenna to increase signal/strength of a dlink express pci-e card, DWA-556. I had windows 7 home premium and then got windows 7 ultimate. The signal strength increased from the three antennas that came with the card and I can get internet access but not very good. The led from the card to the antenna is not as long it could be but the problem is windows 7 period (?) not the antenna.

Great Product, Unrealistic price
I payed about 30 dollars for this antenna. It is great, and it is one of the few that is available for this purpose. I don't trust the other brand (yes there is only one competing product available and it is from Rosewill). I have the corresponding D-Link DWA-556 Xtreme N PCIe Desktop Adapter* that I am using with a Linksys N router. Needless to say, the Xtreme N adapter doesn't show any performance gains over regular N because the Linksys N router is crap (and is not mine to replace). This antenna is a much better antenna than the stock one that came with my desktop's internal wifi adapter. I was getting 1 or 2 bars, 3 if I was really lucky before I got this. Now I get 3 or 4 bars, 5 if I'm lucky. As for the adapter, it helped alot, too. The generic adapter I had before was crap: it didn't even have a brand name, or even a chipset name. I had a uber geeky friend tell me I was lying to him, and that it was impossible (I'm uber geeky too, so I know I wasn't). Price: a downside. 30 dollars for an antenna is like saying the antenna is worth more than half the price of the adapter. One of the two required 3 different kinds of engineers to make; the other did not even require engineering to make. Get the point? 3 engineers: -Electrical/Computer Engineer - circuit board, and electromagnetic shielding -Wireless Communications/signal engineer - works closely with the first kind -Software engineer - drivers and programs * D-Link DWA-556 Xtreme N PCI Express Desktop Adapter

Incremental improvement
When assessing the effectiveness of an indoor antenna like the Xtreme N 2.4 Ghz antenna, it is important to remember that range and bandwidth of a wireless connection depends on many factors, including the number of obstacles, the actual location of reception, and the wireless card itself. In my house, there are many walls and doors separating the dir-655 D-Link router and my laptop. The distance between the two is about 80 feet, hardly a short distance. I gained one bar (from very low to low) and doubled the speed (from 6.5 Mbps to 13 Mbps+) with an ASUS Eee 1000 netbook that has a built-in 802.11n card. In the same position, a regular Dell Latitude laptop with a built-in 802.11g card gave me two bars (same as the ASUS) and 54 Mbps. I suspect that the ASUS wireless card has a rather limited range. So after spending considerable with antenna orientation, there is some improvement with the Xtreme N 2.4GHZ indoor antenna in that particular position (where I sit). I should note that if I move to a slightly different position in the room, I receive a good signal (3 bars+) with a much higher bandwidth. So my sitting location is obviously not ideal for wi-fi reception. With two bars, I am still able to surf without too much trouble (i.e., interruptions). I should add that I tested the Hawking HiGain Directional Corner Antenna, indoor, 15dBi - HAI15SC with the dir-655 router (I was told by the manufacturer that it should work with an N router), but that antenna was less effective than the Xtreme N 2.4GHZ indoor antenna. The bottom line is: Do not expect too much from this antenna. It can help you improve your signal strength, but suddently you are not going to go from one bar to five bars.

Might work for a desktop card, but not on a router
This is just a normal antenna...put it on my router (D-Link DIR-655) and it had no effect or was a lttle worse. I think it is best suited for a desktop card to get the antennas out from behind the computer to a better spot, that would probably result in an improvement...this is not a high gain antenna.

Solved My Problem
We have a DLink dir655 wireless N router sitting on a desk fairly near the center of our single story home. The stock antennae provided seamless coverage for two laptops, a smartphone, an iPod touch, a bluray player, and an internet radio. Then we bought two tablets, an ipad2 and an Acer iconia. Both have inferior reception and didn't connect in numerous spots, including some of our most comfortable furniture. The external antenna, mounted as high on the wall as the cable will allow, is putting out a 5 to 10 dB stronger signal and the tablets work everywhere. A two meter cable would have been nice.

Good Idea, but....
Easy to install, but noticed very little, if any difference. My specific situation wouldn't have been very difficult to remedy - if this product remotely worked as advertised, I'd be a happy camper. To boot - I'm an IT guy professionally and had totally realistic expectations.

It boosts my signal but in a very linear fashion. This antenna doesnt create an umbrella effect like i imagined... it's more of a wheel effect. For example, my signals East and West of the device have improved dramatically and my signal directly under the router in the basement has improved ten fold. But the signals North and South of the antenna are exactly the same with my normal router. This could be caused by some odd interference with other 2.4ghz devices in the home... such as my wireless headphones and our cordless home phone... Most testing to come.

Does what it needs to do. Can have the router in a unit and have the antenna extend outside the unit.
