This book is awesome. As a volunteer EMT with a mountain search and rescue team in Idaho, we can encounter anything from medical tent support for large race events to an injured climber stuck on a cliff needing helicopter transport for advanced medical treatment. This book covers the basics as well as some advanced info for all of those situations. I recommended it to the entire unit, as it is such a great reference for skills and tools we don't necessarily use every day. It's great to have a book I can put in my pack and take with me (EMT book is about 20 pounds too heavy!) to look up information such as a helicopter landing zone, should I need to prepare one! I also love the instructional photos and charts for things like calculating wind chill. It really is a comprehensive guide for the gamut of encounters possible out in the field! Thanks to the author for putting this info together!

A fantastic resource
This book has an amazing amount of information in it, clearly stated with great pictures, presented in a well organized manner. I am a paramedic and an instructor of wilderness medicine, I have seen a lot of good wilderness medical field guides, non however that covers sports and event medicine as well. This would be a great resource for athletic trainers, coaches, or any medical person who finds themselves responding from the sidelines at athletic events. I do standby medical coverage for many events for our local fire department and I would not dream of being on the job without it.

In the interest of full disclosure, I'm listed in this text as a clinical reviewer. But my review found that this text is excellent. I suggest it to anyone who is serious about civilian austere medicine, or who wishes to be.
