The GE u28c was the company's second six-axle HR2625 it produced and was virtually identical to its predecessor, the u25c, except for a slight increase in horsepower. The GE u28c began production directly after the u25c in December, 1965. It was the same length and weight and featured the tri-mount truck standard on many early GE c-c models except for the slight increase in power to 2,800 horsepower using GE's 4-cycle HR2625 Fdl16 Prime mover. All the common attributes of early GE diesel locomotives were present in the u28c such as a standard/plain car body design, short Low nose and relatively good reliability. Its tractive effort was slightly higher than the earlier u25c with 92,500 pounds of starting effort and about 79,500 pound continuous.

I cannot think of a single bad thing to say about this locomotive. The engine is not not a racehorse, but it is a torque monster. This will move scale-mile long freight trains by itself, something that would typically require two of my other engines. Make sure to get a good DCC Decoder, preferably a dual mode DCC/DC in case you ever want to switch things up, and this locomotive will be the favorite on your layout. You really can't beat the price either.

Damn I love these locos
Damn I love these locos! This is the fifth or sixth one I've bought. Only thing I don't like is that they are not equipped with Full Throttle Loksound decoders. Other than that, super detail, great runners and just all around very very pretty units.
