We wanted generic bags for gifts that were more horizontally larger rather than taller. We like the vibrant colors of these bags. They are not paper but a fabric-type material. At Christmas, everyone loved their fabric-type bags so I know they're going to love getting these for birthdays, etc. I would say 50 cents a bag is a good value. I don't know that I want to go back to using paper bags for gifts. You can reuse these bags over and over. Another use is for shopping bags also. My wife said she may try using HTV on them but will have to be very careful. I know people are using pens and such on them to decorate them. We haven't tried that yet.
