Better than the rest......
I loved this book. The Star Force series has been getting better, book by book, and this one really knocked my socks off. Admittedly I was hoping for a real knock-down space battle between Riggs/Crow, but even so, this was a heckuva book. I really recommend these books to any Sci Fi fan - they just keep getting better. Bring on SF9!!

The return home
Enjoyed this book but found it a bit lacking compared to the previous books. There are no mentions at all about the crustations who a few months before pledged their fealty to Colonel Riggs, and I felt the ending was actually a bit weak. Not quite what I expected to finish the getting home part. Overall another solid book but missing that extra zing that was there in the earlier books.

Another brilliant chapter in the Star Force Series
This book is a must-read for anyone following the star force series. What happened in this book was a long time coming!Simply cannot wait to see what direction the next book goes in. I hope that gets released before the end of the year, can't wait!. Keep up the good work B V.

Talk about a sci-fi novel
Love the series, I am amazed how BV Larson has kept up the pace of the story while at the same time maintaining the authenticity of the main plot of the story. This should be the next battlestar galactica and then some.

Can't put the damn thing down!
The Star Force Series are a true must read for any Sci-Fi fan...the story twists and turns and keeps you on your toes, whilst the characters become almost real and you feel genuine warmth towards them...well some anyway.

Series starts badly but improves slowly.
Series starts badly but improves slowly. Later sf series are much improved/worthwhile especially "Undying Mercenaries".

Slow to Start
I found Storm Assault a little slow to start (hence 4 stars), but it did pick up very fast, can't waite for book 9.

A great military sci-fi series, but stop with book 9 (and try to overlook the mild sexism)
This series is excellent the whole way through. Whenever you think a rhythm has been established, it evolves into a new situation with clever implications. The writing is fast paced but not simplistic. The plots are sometimes cliche, but they shift around so fast that they aren't predictable or boring. It's not deep philosophy or dense reading, but it is extremely creative and has a consistent treatment of the futuristic technologies.Caveats(1) Books 1-9 are excellent and end at a logical stopping point. Books 10-12 are pale imitations that can be skipped without missing anything. I didn't hate the last 3, but they are disappointing after the brilliance of the first 9. The first 9 are better left unblemished with an anticlimactic sequel trilogy.(2) There is some mild implicit sexism. It doesn't get in the way of the good parts of the books, but it is there. Every female character is described in terms of her attractiveness when first introduced. All women are either objects of desire, incompetent under pressure, or schemers. The men, by contrast, are portrayed with much more variety in personality and role. Women are never insulted explicitly, but the characterization is still pretty consistent and unfortunate.

Larson does it again!
This is another excellent book in the "Swarm" series and does not disappoint. The great battle sequences, new strategies for new enemies and strange aliens and transformed human cyborgs make an exciting book that is hard to put down.

Un huitième opus au rythme rapide
Belle suite pour la série, pas de perte d'allureÀ voir la suite...4 et non pas 5* pour la bataille finale pour la terre que je considère un peu rapide

Fast paced, hilarious und totally stupid
Reader, be warned: BV Larsons Star Force series is neither for the serious nor for the faint hearted. Strong language is prevalent. The story so often takes a turn for the good of our hero that it is pretty hilarious, so dont take it too seriously.that being said the novel is again written very fast-paced. Larson takes us on the ride back to Earth to finally mop up the story and give Crow his well deserved due. To do that tech of the Blue is used, strange critters have to be decimated and, of course, Kyle does what he does best, some smooth-tongued fast-talking, outwitting his enemies. This series is pretty much a military sci-fi version of Pratchets discworld or Aspryns Demon series. If you dont take it seriously and enjoy it more like a parodied version you will get your fill out of this.If you are more looking for a totally mature, fully developed galaxy with finely tuned technology this really isnt what I would recommend for a first read.I rate it five stars because once again I couldnt stop reading, couldnt stop smiling and thoroughly enjoyed the mis-adventures of one Kyle Riggs of RIGGS PIGS!Oh, and since this is the 8th part of this series, dont read it first, you won't get the story or the story arc at all.
