Berlitz: Nordic Europe Phrase Book & Dictionary: Norwegian, Swedish, Danish, & Finnish (Berlitz Phrasebooks)

Bought this for a trip which included Sweden and Finland. Good value to have multiple books in one. Very nicely laid out with the different sections and has all the basics easy to find. Though I have to say, didn't really need to use since everyone speaks such good English! However, I always like to have one handy in case, and I think it's always polite to learn Please/Thankyou etc and this suited the job perfectly. It's a good size that you can leave it in your day bag an it doesn't get in the way. Size wise I'd say it's A6, perhaps a smidgen wider, and about half an inch thick. All the phonetic ways of saying them are written next to the phrases, though bear in mind it is 'Queens English' pronunciation so if you're even mildly from the north like me you need to adjust your 'u's to 'ahs' which was entertaining ;)

A useful book for holidays

Exactly what I expected

Very useful when visiting the Scandanavian countries.

I was visiting Finland recently so looked on Amazon for a Finnish phrase book. I saw this, and that it also covered some other languages (bonus, I thought), and it was also cheaper than some of the dedicated Finnish phrase books, so I opted for it. However I was left extremely disappointed by how little it actually contained. The book is very slightly thicker than other phrase books I own, but it covers four languages...meaning each language is very limited in phrases and the "dictionary" at the end was barely worth having. I am also not really a fan of the general layout and typefaces employed by the Berlitz books. I have other phrase books by a company called DK and in my opinion they are far more clearly laid out, easier to read, and the phonetic transcriptions of how to pronounce the phrases are far more understandable. Looking at a page in this Berlitz book you really need to look hard as all the text seems to 'blend together'. Definitely buy separate phrase books for the languages you need -- and the DK ones at that. This barely contains enough of each language to get you through a meal.

Since I have and hope to continue to travel in Scandinavia, this is most helpful for all the countries. I like that it has phonetic pronunciations for many of the words and phrases.

Great as an introduction to European languages (Norwegian, Finnish, etc.).

Very helpful but doesn't include Icelandic have to buy that separately

Got this for an upcoming trip to Scandinavia, and am having fun with it so far...covers the basics of several languages, which is just about all I'll need, I hope...nicely organized and clearly written with good pronunciation tips--Berlitz does a good job with their phrase books, and I've used many of them.
