Totally recommending it!
I received What to Expect When You Are Expecting in my first trimester and the book was a lifesaver to me. It just kept me with all the worries and uncertainties you experience as a first time mum-to-be. That is why I purchased the second book What to Expect the First Year. I am in my third trimester and currently reading it. I love it. It gives me comfort due to all the useful tips it provides.

A great follow on to the What to Expect series - so good I have bought it for friends who are expecting. This book brings to life that first year of babydom, providing - as do the others in this series - advice that can be read based on how applicable it is to you, with a surprisingly minimal amount of condemnation for behaviours that are considered "hot topics" in the mummy-discussion-board-world (co-sleeping, dummies, etc.). Very much based on providing facts & education, and a great resource when you want to consult something other than your friend or parent/grandparent. I personally feel that it enables you to be an independent parent, and empowers you to feel in control of the biggest change you've ever made in your life.

Very good book
I have read about 12 books regarding babies and their first year and I feel like this book has the most relevant information. It talks about everything you need to know.If I were to recommend 1 book out of everything that I have read, this would be the one!

The only book you need
Love this book! I got a wide range of books when I found out I was pregnant and this is the only one I've found helpful

Much better alternatives in my opinion
I read a few paragraphs of an earlier version in the maternity ward and thought it seemed very helpful so decided to purchase. Unfortunately I've found most of it too instructive so it's almost scaremongering. I think it tries to cover too many possibilities. Eg, your baby might be quiet because they're very relaxed, or they might need urgent medical attention. Not very helpful imo. Some of the information contradicted what I'd been told by midwives which is slightly concerning. Also the first section of the book is dedicated to instructing new parents to buy lots of useless paraphernalia, calling it "essential". How on earth is a nappy bin essential? I bought one and I'm going to give it to my mum to put dog poo in because newborn nappies barely smell, and certainly not enough to justify a completely separate bin.I highly recommend First-time Parent by Lucy Atkins as an alternative. It has a much more relaxed tone and much clearer, concise information on what to expect, what to be concerned about, and what you really need to buy for a new baby.On the positive side, this book does cover every question you're likely to have. Eg. What's with the rapid breathing? Why does my baby cry every time I put her down? Etc and will generally tell you it's normal and / or get down to A&E. As long as you have some common sense you'll pick the right one, but the tone still got my back up.
