This was a blessing during hurricanes Helene and Milton
It will be your most cherished item, other than water and food, while surviving a hurricane. It has a way to recharge your phone, perhaps the most important feature. Yes the hand crank actually recharges the flashlight so you can recharge your phone. It has a light which you will praise when you have no electric power. Speaking of no electric power, when you have no internet or cable the radio is very important to keep up to date with the outside world. It also charges with solar power, amazing. Their radio is fantastic. It's also good for camping. You will love it!

Hand crank charging……….Questionable
This is a nice little radio. Bought it pretty much like everyone else…….JIC…….the SHTF. Reception is really good. I actually was quite surprised at how many Short Way channels it receives. AM and FM as well as the NOAA weather channel all come in clear also and the sound is very good. When it arrived the internal battery was dead so I thought it would be a good time to test to see how long the radio would function after about 5 minutes of hand cranking and was not impressed. Nothing……cranked away for a solid 5 minutes and the display would not even light up let alone hear any radio so I’m guessing this is just a gimmick and really doesn’t do anything. The instructions do say to fully charge the battery with the supplied USB cable for first time use but I really don’t see what difference that would make. A dead battery is a dead battery and if cranking the hand crank doesn’t give you some sort of charge after 5 minutes of cranking than what good is it. Knowing this now I certainly won’t rely on it and will keep a good supply of 3D batteries. This was the reason for the 4 star rating. Overall for 25$ it’s a pretty good purchase.

Excellent!
I went though two of another brand, that had various issues keeping them from working correctly, all because there were more reviews. I thought it would be a safer choice. Two defective ones later, I came back for my second choice... Which obviously should've been my first! It works just as expected, with more features than I ever expected! I'll definitely be able to rely on this for power outages and more. It functions really well and will be reliable, which is the most important. Don't make it your plan B, start with this one!

Takes a long time to charge
I bought this as part of my hurricane prep kit, so I charged it as soon as I opened the box. It took hours to get to full charge. BUT, I bought this because it was one of the few that also took batteries. I like that it's a compact size and instructions were unnecessary.

Do not buy.
Don't buy for a catastrophe... Floods hurricanes fires. I put mine in the window and the sun to charge... The next thing I know, it's making a clicking noise. That sounds like you're trying to start a gas stove.. Maybe the sun overcharged it!
