Essential for loft insulation project
You NEED to use this item if you have down lighters on the 1st floor when fitting loft insulation. If you do no not use this you will suffer from blown transformers or a potential electrical fire. Easy to install and very robust!

Simple product which does the job nicely, although it did seem a little expensive.
Simple product which does the job nicely, although it did seem a little expensive. I later found it slightly cheaper from a mainstream UK online DIY store.

Does Exactly as required
A great way of keeping downlights clear of insulation and preventing heat escaping through any gaps. Easy to fit with cut outs on all sides for cables. I put cheap sealant around the edge before putting into position which prevents it from moving and provides an air tight seal. You can buy special downlights that can be pushed up into insulation without the need for clearance but it worked out cheaper buying standard downlights and these lids instead. You do need to have reasonable access above the downlights though.

Solid
Good sturdy product. Just something to keep in mind--if like me, you have your attic, or room above, floored, then your joists need to be at least 6 inches deep (leaving no clearance to your floor above). With 7 inch joists you will have clearance of only 1 inch to top with a small thickness of insulation. Mine are 9 inch-so it didn't matter.

Fire rated downlight hoods
Bought these as loft was getting a much needed insulation top up/ upgrade after 14 years. Original delivery went awol but seller sent another lot out after emailing them. 2nd delivery had a damaged unit and again the seller sent a replacement one out. Outstanding comms from the seller. Stuck them down using fire proof mastic, not a problem with laying the insulation around and over them. Overall, very happy with the product and the seller.
