Top notch! Not exactly "Commerical"
First off, the ASUS BE90U is a really great router. Setup was incredibly easy, and based on my past experience with ASUS routers, I expect reliability to be solid as well. The feature set, signal strength, and overall speed are impressive. The value is okay. I do think you are paying a bit for the name, and the commercial grade angle feels a little overstated. To start, it has six large, adjustable antennas that you can position for proper coverage depending on your home. On the back, there is a 2.5 Gigabit WAN port and three 2.5 Gigabit LAN ports, which is fantastic. Not everyone can fully utilize 2.5 Gb yet, but with fiber speeds reaching 5 and even 10 Gigabit, it is nice to have. This is especially true if you are running a whole home network or want a faster wired backhaul to a central switch or another router. There is also a USB port for things like a hotspot, so you can set up a backup connection with a 4G or 5G phone. Unlike many ASUS products, this one is pretty understated. I think that is part of the commercial grade look they are going for. It does include some features that edge into that space, but as someone who works with actual commercial networking gear, I would not quite put it in that category. It bridges consumer and commercial in some ways, but it is not something I would deploy in a full commercial environment. It uses the ASUS Router app, and if you have used it before, setup is even easier. Once it detects the new router, you just scan the QR code and it can import your existing settings. This is great if you are replacing an old unit. It only takes a few minutes. You can also add it to an existing ASUS AiMesh system. I did that initially, but I also wanted to test it on its own. I have a three floor home and was previously using an ASUS ZenWiFi setup with three nodes, one per floor. It worked well with no major issues, but it leaned more toward the consumer side and was a bit slower overall. The BE90U is not wildly faster in raw performance, but it does feel quicker in day to day use. Things like applying settings and rebooting are noticeably faster. The antenna setup matters more than people think. If you have a multi level home, do not just point them all straight up. There is signal polarization to consider. If everything is vertical, you can get weaker coverage above and below the router. Angling some antennas horizontally helps push signal between floors. Think of it like shaping the coverage. Mixing angles gives you better overall reach. If you are in a single story home, this matters less. Design wise, I like that it is not overly gamer. It is sleek, black, a little edgy, but still subtle enough to fit in anywhere. I have mine set up on the third floor, which is a bonus room, with the antennas positioned correctly. Coverage from the third floor down to the first, and even outside nearby, has been excellent. Speeds have been consistently strong. Like any Wi Fi, performance drops with distance, but I have not seen anything concerning. This is especially impressive coming from a three node system with a dedicated backhaul. As mentioned earlier, the router is fast in operation. Boot times are quick, and applying changes happens fast. Reboots take about a minute and a half, which is great compared to my previous unit that took significantly longer. Setup through the app was extremely easy. Just follow the prompts. You can also access it via the default IP using the credentials in the manual if you prefer. For most people, the app is the way to go. Download it, scan the QR code, follow the steps, and you are done. If you already have an ASUS system, importing settings makes it even faster. After a quick reboot and maybe a firmware update, you will be up and running in about 30 minutes or less.

Excellent Standalone Performance — Rock Solid and Reliable
I’ve been really impressed with the ASUS RT-BE86U. I’ve deployed several of these in single-router setups (no nodes yet), and every one has been completely stable and dependable. Setup was straightforward. I always update to the latest firmware right away, and each install has gone perfectly — no connection drops, slowdowns, or random issues. Most of these homes have around 20–30 devices connected, including phones, TVs, Google smart devices, and the occasional gaming PC. The RT-BE86U handles everything effortlessly with solid speed and coverage throughout the house. The only small change I’ve noticed compared to the AX86U Pro is the rearranged GUI — some of the Wi-Fi settings have been moved under the “Network” section. It’s a bit different and took a minute to get used to, but once you know where everything is, it’s not a big deal. Overall, the RT-BE86U has been flawless as a standalone router. It’s fast, reliable, and a great upgrade for anyone wanting top-tier Wi-Fi 7 performance without headaches.

Solid Router - Hardware and Software - Lots of Wired Ports
This is solid router. It performs well - has solid connections to all of my devices, provides 900+ Mbps Up and Down, provides exceptional bandwidth, and manages traffic on 30+ devices. This router replaces the ASUS RT-3100AC which never had a single issue. Router is set up in a 3,100 square foot, 2 story home on a 1/2 acre. So I have Smart Outdoor Plugs to manage lighting, pest controllers and a water fountain. And this router has the range to connect it all. My previous ASUS 3100 almost provided full coverage but i would lose connections on the outer edges. So I added an extender and that worked for 10+ years. This ASUS RT BE88U provides full coverage without the additional extender. It has Ai Mesh capabilities so if I needed to push my range further deep over the 1/2 acre lot. I bought this particular router because #1 ASUS makes great routers, #2 this router will cover 3000 sq ft, and #3 all the performance hardwired ports.... I am using 4 of the wired ports now and there are 4 more for future proofing. Plus there are two 10Gb ports - one for the input WAN, and one for maybe a future NAS. This router has most everything one would need. It is not a gaming specific router, but it is a high performance all purpose router. The one thing it does NOT have is the 6GHz band. I was on the fence about even having the 6GHz because sometimes all the bugs aren't out of managing that third band. And 2.4GHz and 5GHz exceed my performance needs without any hassles of the 6GHz band. And even though it does not have the third band, it has ALL the other performance tech that comes with WiFi7. I am very happy with this router. Would definitely buy again.

Asus RT-BE9700 Router
I am replacing one of the two RT-AX88U Asus routers I bought in 2021. The setup is very similar as the old router, except I used the Asus app instead of my laptop to set it up this time. I have been setting up routers for many years, so I am familiar with some of the settings needed to set one up, but there is always new features to explore. If you get into the advanced settings you can really customize this router to your liking. It is faster than my WiFi 6 router and the range is incredible. I opted for a dual band rather than a tri band because I like the range of the 5 gigahertz over the 6 gigahertz band. Setting up a router there is always some frustration involved with multiple reboots and a few quirks, but my experience wasn't too bad. I would rate the frustration level as manageable with a few snack breaks included. I like the 2 wan ports and 8 lan ports. It makes connecting my networked wired house easy to connect. I also like the ability to connect a cell phone hot spot to the router. If this router lasts as long as my old one I will be very happy. It is very customizable and very capable.

Revitalized My AiMesh Setup and Removed a Real Bottleneck
Pros: * Quad 2.5G ports make a real difference * Excellent AiMesh upgrade for older nodes * Strong, stable handling of dozens of devices * WiFi 7 support gives plenty of future headroom * Helpful security and smart home network features - very stable, little to no device drops Consider: * Best value if your network can use 2.5G * Older devices/nodes may still limit performance elsewhere I installed this ASUS RT-BE90U after doing a thorough review of my home network and realizing two things: a couple of my AiMesh nodes were old enough that they were no longer receiving updates, and parts of my wired network were being capped by older 1 gig equipment. This router ended up being a major upgrade, not just because it is newer, but because it helped remove an actual bottleneck. The quad 2.5G ports are a big part of the appeal. In my setup, moving past a 1 gig cap made the internal network feel much more capable, especially with dozens of devices constantly connecting, reconnecting, streaming, syncing, or sitting quietly in the background. After installing it, devices negotiated connections cleanly and the mesh system felt refreshed instead of patched together. AiMesh support is also a major strength. I already use an ASUS mesh environment, so this fit naturally into the larger setup. It brought new life to the network without forcing me to rethink everything from scratch. The router feels solid, modern, and built for a busy smart home rather than a simple “few phones and a laptop” household. The WiFi 7 features give it a lot of future-proofing, especially with MLO, tri-band support, and the higher theoretical speeds. Not every device in my house can fully take advantage of that yet, but the router is ready as newer devices arrive. The Smart Home Master features are also useful for separating IoT devices and keeping the network more organized. The Asus app is spectacular allowing you to use a vast range of controls in the app. Otherwise, it’ll connect you directly to the full admin interface via a browser. I’m an Asus fan due to the years of stability Ivd enjoyed with devices just like this one. Overall, this is a very strong router and a meaningful upgrade if your home network has outgrown older gear. For me, it helped revitalize the mesh system, cleaned up connection behavior, and removed a wired speed ceiling that had been quietly holding things back. Solid, powerful, and very well suited for a device-heavy home.

Must need router for gaming and overall performance and quality
One of the best routers out there! It’s definitely worth the upgrade and you can see the difference compared to my old Orbi router. The range is just as good as my old mesh system.

Solid WiFi 7 Router with a Major AiMesh Catch for Legacy Users
The ASUS RT-BE90U is an impressive piece of hardware, but its value for a power user really depends on how you integrate it into a multi-generational mesh. As a fresh build, this router is a solid choice. If you're an ASUS fan like myself, with an existing AIMesh network, the majority of my review will be based on my experience with trying to use this to upgrade my ASUS WiFi 6 AIMesh network. I originally bought this to be my primary gateway, but I quickly discovered a major compatibility gap. My existing ASUS AIMesh WiFi 6 network relies on a GT-AX11000, ZenWiFi XT9s, and XT8s all running the 3.0.0.4 firmware, and the RT-BE90U’s 3.0.0.6 firmware simply doesn't play nice when you need to maintain dedicated 5GHz-2 wireless backhaul channel. It only allows control of one 5GHz channel as this is a Tri-Band router and the AI Mesh network ends up only having configurations that are available for the main router, so with this BE90U as the main router you end up having to either share your 5GHz as a wireless backhaul and with all your devices, or giving up the 5GHz-2 wireless backhaul and your wireless WiFi 6 AIMesh routers. Inversely, when using the GT-AX11000 as the main, the limitation to 3.0.0.4 firmware makes the WiFi 7 (6Ghz) band of this router unusable as an AIMesh node because the main doesn't have WiFi 7. So you are at a crosshairs of giving up your WiFi 6 ecosystem when upgrading to ASUS WiFi 7 AIMesh network. In terms of value for the money, the value of this router could be greatly improved with firmware updates allowing further customization of a second 5GHz channel when applicable, or bringing WiFi6 routers into the 3.0.0.6 ecosystem. Hopefully ASUS considers either pathway one day. Regarding pure performance, the RT-BE90U boasts tri-band speeds up to 9400 Mbps. While I found it couldn't serve as my primary hub, its hardware is a significant step up from my XT9s and XT8s. For instance, the RT-BE90U features six high-power external antennas. These six antennas provide a much stronger, more reliable signal than my internal-antenna ZenWiFi nodes, making the BE90U far superior at eliminating dead zones on my first floor. However, I still need my XT9s and XT8s as I use them to cover the perimeter where I have security cameras. So I ended up using this as a Living Room node. The setup for the RT-BE90U is standard for modern ASUS hardware, manageable through the web GUI or the ASUS Router app, though I’ve noticed the newer 3.0.0.6 firmware interface leans into "Smart Home Master" features for managing multiple SSIDs and IoT devices. While the app is generally feature-rich, the user interface on this 3.0.0.6 branch can feel restrictive for power users compared to the legacy 3.0.0.4 menus, particularly when it comes to manual channel steering. The quad 2.5G ports are a great addition for wired stability. Ultimately, I resorted to placing this on my first floor to provide much-needed localized speed for my cameras and living area, utilizing its superior physical signal range to compensate for the firmware hurdles that prevented a full house-wide upgrade. For those trying to bridge the gap between ASUS WiFi 6 and WiFi 7 AiMesh systems, my advice is to prioritize a wired backhaul whenever possible and be ready to give up the second 5Ghz wireless channel. Connecting nodes with Ethernet cables bypasses the wireless backhaul channel limitations and provides much faster, more reliable speeds, especially when mixing generations. If a wired connection isn't an option, there are quad band ASUS routers with 6GHz that should work but I don't have one of those routers. I'll be interested in getting one of those ASUS routers to bridge the gap. Additionally, consider disabling newer features like Multi-Link Operation (MLO) on the primary WiFi 7 router, as having it enabled can cause compatibility issues where older nodes without MLO will fail to broadcast certain bands or struggle to maintain a stable connection. For some legacy devices, using a dedicated IoT network or manually setting the WPA encryption to AES can also help maintain stability across the mixed mesh.

Asus RT-BE88U just works!!
Amazon Rview: Read through to get to the Asus RT-BE88U.... This review will most likely not get posted. I purchased the Netgear RS700S as "refurbished," which generally means that it was returned and some how repaired (or at least double check to make sure it is working per manufacturer specs). It was not. Router would continuously drop signal. So it appears that Amazon just repackaged it and sold it, as is. Router Review: 1. Administrator menu is very limited on what you can do. 2. When accessing the router's admin menu, it times you out after about 15-20 seconds while your trying to read the documentation for settings. You must re-sign in EVERY SINGLE TIME! 3. You can NOT change the admin user name. You must use "admin." Without the ability to change the admin name Netgear reduced your router access security by 50%. 4. In order to gain access to the needed security for the router, you MUST pay an annual subscription!! 5. Netgear customer service people are rude to you if you turn down the subscription sales pitch, and then reqest to get I.T. support on an issue. They actually hung up on me. At first I thought the over-seas phone line dropped. However, when I called back 2 or 3 times, they would not even answer the phone. CONCLUSION: I returned the RS700S for a full refund and bought an ASUS RT-BE88U router. Everything mentioned above is NOT an issue. Their admin user name can be changes, you have a huge amount of control within the admin menu (including how long you wish the menu to time-out.) NO annual subscription fees. Signals on 2.4, 5, and 6G are very solid. I have 15 devices and not one of them has ever dropped a signal. Also, reboot times are much fast than Netgear's. Great router, security, menu interface, and performance! Customer service wasn't needed because this router just WORKS!!

Works great, simple to configure, powerful CPU, enough RAM and flexibility.
Great router replacing my old still functional AC5300 router. BE6800 sports double the memory and cpu core at 1GB 4 core CPU, and the 3 long antennas cover more than the 6 antennas of my old router. Configured BE6800 the same way as my old router and slot it in as a pure replacement. Works like a charm, one SSID, it automatically pic he right channel or channel based on client device, works flawlessly. As for the old AC5300, I reset it and run it as an AiMesh node to extend the range to the other side of the house. Connected via a CAT6 cable as backhaul, the coverage is now superb at both ends of the house and the yards. Router is running embedded linux, allowing flexibilty of firewall, many features handle like a breeze, like DNS, DHCP, Media server, remote disk, SSH access, speed test, traceroute, etc. Many generation after AC5300, delivery same and more features at a cheaper price, even before inflation adjustment.
