In 2001, Texas Hill Country textile artist Robin Brown established Magnolia Pearlยa design company showcasing her unique and remarkable style. Almost instantly, she became a cult figure to the fashionable young women who snap up her fantastic bags and couture clothing at high-end boutiques across the country. Now, in her first lavishly photographed book, Robin explains her interior design philosophy and shows us all how much you can do with just ยa bit of velvet and a dash of lace.โ In her fresh, young, and truly one-of-a-kind approach to home decoration, Brown combines colors, textures, and materials to create environments of endlessly fascinating detail. Her incredibly ornate rooms feature an eclectic mix of Victorian, oriental, and vintage American dรฉcorยyet theyโre easy and affordable to duplicate and personalize. In addition to taking us layer by layer through each phase of decoration, and providing easy-to-follow and irresistible projects, Robin offers a delightful discussion of her unusual childhood thatโs as personal and inviting as her own designs. Review: Outstanding! - I originally purchased this book because it looked pretty and I thought it would make a nice addition to my collection of home decor books. When I opened it and thumbed through the first few pages, I was immediately captivated by the Magnolia Pearl style. This is a wonderful book!!! I have many books about vintage decor and shabby chic and flea market style, but I have found what I never knew I was looking for! The layers of wonderful textures and colors and creativity is amazing. Robin has truly mastered her art. Once I realized what I had found, I immediately searched for and found her website and fell even more in love with the Magnolia Pearl clothing line (and the images of her home, her car, herSELF, and her flair for creating amazing displays!) I will most definitely be traveling to Round Top in September to meet her and to visit her booth at the Marburger Farm & Antique Show. I can't wait!!! I highly recommend this book! Review: Ready to move in! - Love, love, love this book! Clearly, it's either your 'style' (or dream!) or it's not. If you're not into velvet & lace well, it's not for you! You have to love the opulence, decadence, art nouveau, and eclecticism that she inspires. And she really has inspired me! I can't follow as much as I'd love to or my husband will move out! But you can really get a sense of how to embody this look from the book - which is more than I can say about alot of decorating books which tend to be museum-like and frankly out of touch with average household budgets. Not only are the photos very descriptive, but the narrative is very helpful and encouraging. Word to the wise: the looks embodied by Magnolia Pearl decorating will take considerable time to achieve! But I think the author conveys well that you can start slowly and pursue the aspects you like. It is a matter of personal taste so only those who find this style appealing will find the book appealing. I certainly did.

Huge Dashes of Grace from Magnolia Pearl
I have long been a fan of the Magnolia Pearl style, pre-ordered this book months ago (February 2008) and counted the months until it's arrival. No disappointment whatsoever... This is a book filled with luscious photos and beautiful reading for the soul. I have savored each page from the very first photo of Robin and John's home at Twilight to Robin's last words of remembering to be true to yourself in your decorating style (somehow these words set me free - you'll understand after you read the book!). Beautiful antiques, peacock feathers galore, welcoming porches, enchanting lighting, gorgeous windows, lush beds with layer upon layer and even a section for Pets. This book is truly a feast for the eyes and Robin's easy writing style feeds the soul. I did not want this book to end. In other words, I highly recommend this beautiful book and feel you will want to put aside a few minutes each evening to truly take in this book... "Enjoy"!

An Interesting Point of View
This style of decorating is certainly a bit "out there", certainly the personal taste of the author, but interesting. I will not be covering my walls with oriental carpets, or filling vases with peacock feathers, but I enjoyed reading about her life and her love of these things. I have some understanding of how Magnolia Pearl came to be, now. Pretty in a lavish Victorian way, fun to look at.

Inspiring images and text, ideal for artists and fans of Magnolia Pearl.
This is actually the second time I've bought this book. I lost a previous copy in a cross-country move, and recently realized how much I missed the inspiration in this book. (I'm an artist, often working with fabric.) If you're a fan of Magnolia Pearl and/or quirky clothing & decor that mixes vintage materials and images with flair... this book should be in your home library. You'll re-read it regularly for inspiration.

Lush!
I can't tell you how I was looking forward to looking through this book. But I really had no idea I would love it this much. This book has everything I might have wanted, and more! First of all, the photos are beautiful, inspiring, and lush! But then when you put them together with the story, it is even more engaging! And to top it off, there are many how to's, and even a list of places to treasure search! What an amazing person Robin Brown seems, and what an amazing artist. Thank you for this book. I will treasure it always!

A beautiful and fun read!
This book exceeded my expectations ~I knew I would see pretty, creative pictures as I was familiar with Robin Brown's work. However, it was way more than that. I read every word and was entertained by her stories but also thought she was very generous with information. I felt like I knew her after I read the book and was sure I liked her. The pictures really showed what a talented person she is! I will look at and read this book many times I am sure! If she did another book I would definitely buy it.
