JUST what I was looking for
Right off the bat, I want to address an issue at least two PPL have commented on,..Broken tools/tools being 'brittle' etc.I'm gonna try and be 'nice' here re. those posters,...I'm a professional woodcarver for nearly 50 years now.I also, teach (for FREE) but at no time do I allow any of my students to actually use one of MY tools.I teach them for free, but they Must have their own carving tools,.... I recommend one special set of beginner tools,... because in my opinion,... they're the best on the market, at a reasonable price, (10 tools, under $100 ) and with proper care, Should last the person their entire lifetime. In all these years, I have never broken but ONE tool,... and it was 100 % my OWN fault because lack of experience and lack of any training (I'm self-taught, Had to learn-the-Hard-way)The tool was FINE quality. There was NO fault in the tool. The fault was in the inexperienced idiot, ME.And it's true,... once broken,... it's a total loss,... there's no fixing it,.... I still have my broken one,.... I use it in my classes as an example of what NOT to do,... These are CARVING tools,..... delicate precision implements capable of awesome things, in patient creative hands. But they are not Shovels,... and cannot be used as such,.... try to, and the thin sharp edges ,can break or even the tool shaft itself, can snap !The straight tools are used exclusively for downward carving,.... when you actually know what you're doing,...all can be used flipped over, (that's difficult to explain, without showing) and most, can also be used by upside down i.e. cutting towards yourself,... which can be tricky but possible if you take certain precautions to protect against personal injury.(so far I've had one trip to the ER,... and again,.. was 100 % my own fault,... I was in a hurry and failed to take certain precautions,... and I put a 1 inch chisel into my left hand, clean to the bone,.... came within a hair's breath of severing a main nerve to my index finger and making it useless for the rest of my life,.... ) i.e. carving tools are Sharp by necessity, and 'you' are not as hard as wood or stone. The rule here, is : IF, the tool skips,....... know EXACTLY what's on the other side of what you're carving, and Don't let that be a hand or knee,.... you're only allowed so many near misses by the Universe,... and then your luck is gonna run out.Anyway,.... the reason my one tool broke is the same reason I will not allow a student to use one of my tools.Because inexperienced PPL will be inclined, sooner or later, to attempt to PRY with the tool,... and that is pretty much guaranteed to destroy the tool.Be it wood or stone, bone or antler,... ALWAYS, carve small chips,.. patiently.Unless it's a gouge (curved bottom tool),... all straight tools are used, straight down, straight Up,... if you must yank the tool out,... you're trying to remove too much at a time,..... the tool should be free of the wood (etc) when the chip flies free,... A gouge works a bit differently as it's intended to hollow areas. But,.. those are the most inclined to also snap the edge,... as folks try to use them like shovels. (it was a half-inch wide gouge I snapped the edge on) With a gouge, you make shallow passes,... No deeper than a 1/16 th inch chips (larger gouges on larger projects, can handle thicker chips)All this being said,... I didn't order these tools primarily for carving wood.I ordered them for amber, and for making/carving soapstone molds for metal casting in and later for carving end-grain woodblocks to print fabric with, and carving bone and antler,..... if you want to carve WOOD,... contact me and I'll point you in the same direction I point my carving students in. I get ZERO kickback from these tool sales. I tell you what you'll need and You decide who you'll go to to purchase them. That said,.... my tools arrived this morning and I haven't had a chance to put them to stone or amber. How do I KNOW I'm going to like them ? Because until now,... my soapstone carving tools were nothing but nails, and my amber tools were a nervous combination of nails and curved rasps. I'm delighted to finally have a decent set of proper tools for those things (I ordered a second set of even smaller tools wrapped in silk cord,... for more delicate applications,... they also arrived this morning.Just a couple more asides,.... re. this set.The leather case for them is first rate leather (My mother was a professional leather carver)The leather wrapped tools themselves have an extra screw-type shape near the end of the tools, for a GOOD grip on them and fine control,...... for me, This is going to be MUST when I try using them to carve slippery horn or antler/bone,.... am looking forward to planning new projects with them.

Nice leather wrap
Tools seem good quality but I haven't tried them yet. The leather roll up case is very nice. Each chisel is about 6" long so I suppose they are only suitable for small detail work. Looks like a handy kit to have around the house for all those wood and minor stone carvings you've been hankering to do as soon as you get around to it. So. the case is round, buy it and you will have your round To-It.Not for steel although you might be able to etch it, don't know, haven't tried it. Blades are very sharp so they should work well on wood, plastic, leather cuts and soap stone. Comes with 10 chisels -assorted sizes and tips, leather wrapped for easy grip and a quality leather case, plus little rubber tips to cap your very sharp chisels. The rubber tips will likely get lost but the inner leather flaps in the case will likely keep the pointy parts from poking through. I give this one an A-1 rating (subject to further review after I've busted a knuckle or two.

Chisels
Looks good, have yet to put to real work metal seems good, for the price i believe these will hold up as well as any decent chisel in this price, need a nylon hammer, but i did use without a hammer and it held a decent edge and performed as expected.

I love these
These have been a great addition to my carving tools. They came sharpened and hold an edge well. Definitely recommend

Love
Love the quality of the leather handle and the case. The metal is sharp and works good. I did chip one of them slightly but I also don’t know what I’m doing so they’re putting up with a lot of abuse while I learn. I would recommend to students for the affordability and durability

Really good quality
This chisel set is astonishingly nice for the price. I gave it as a gift and the response was wonderful. If you used the chisels the correct way, they won’t break or chip.

Precision and Detail only
The packaging is incredible, the leather case, how the chisel were wrapped, like I bought them from a blacksmith. The actual chisels work really well and get nice details, but if you want to take large chunks off your work these are not the right tools for you. They are more for detail and precision.
