The Science of Self-Hypnosis: The Evidence Based Way To Hypnotise Yourself is a book written for anyone wanting to learn about self-hypnosis and how to use it. This book is ideal for anyone; ranging from beginners who are new to the field of self-hypnosis, to experienced clinicians hoping to teach patients how to use self-hypnosis for therapeutic gain. Contained within this book are a range of methods for anyone to apply: to achieve a hypnotic mindset, develop hypnotic skills, induce self-hypnosis, deepen the experience of hypnosis, apply a range of evidence-based techniques and strategies for self-improvement and then exit hypnosis. The book offers a modern historical explanation of the development of this fascinating field as well as serving as a guidebook for practical application. All of this is done by dispensing with notions of an 'unconscious mind' or a 'special trance state' , instead showing hypnosis to be an ordinary skill that anyone can learn, to be good at and derive benefit from. As the book title suggests, it adheres to research findings and the evidence-base available as much as possible while offering up a substantial literature review of this topic. The second half of the book looks specifically at applying self-hypnosis for stress management, anxiety reduction, depression, pain control and sleep enhancement; all showcasing techniques which can be applied to a range of other issues too. This is a comprehensive volume that aims to result in it's readers becoming proficient self-hypnotists. Adam ends his book with these words: In my opinion, there are not enough people in the world who have these skills. Self-hypnotists have the opportunity to make real beneficial changes that make each day an exciting prospect; the self-hypnosis adventure and exploration starts here. That indeed is an exciting prospect! Review: This book can change your life - This is an excellent and comprehensive volume about self-hypnosis. Self-hypnosis is an enormously powerful tool for positive change and self-development. Adam has written a book that will probably become the 'gold standard' for this subject. I have only read about half of the book so far. Why? Because the first half is devoted to the theory and basics of self-hypnosis whilst the second half is devoted to using it for specific purposes. You could read the book cover to cover, but that is not how it is intended to be used. It is not a book intended to just instil the reader with knowledge and theory (although it does this very well). It is a book designed to guide the reader to become adept at what is a skill that needs to be practised. Once you have worked through the first few chapters and become familiar with the theory and science behind the subject you reach the point where you need to start practising yourself. Adam makes it clear that self-hypnosis is a skill that can be learned by everyone but, just like playing a musical instrument, it takes practice, practice, practice. There are many mental exercises and methods that are aimed to improve the imagination and capability of the reader to do self-hypnosis and many ways to both induce and deepen hypnosis. Thus I am practising the basics before I move on to the later chapters that explain how self-hypnosis can be used for pain management, insomnia, IBS, habits and much more. Adam is committed to evidence based therapy and thus the text is liberally sprinkled with references to research studies that support his advice. It is also reassuring to note that Adam himself has many years of practical experience and has taught thousands of students. All through the book there is a feeling that you are being guided by an leading expert in the field. It is a serious book about a serious subject and if you are serious about making positive changes to your life and are willing to put in the time, then this is the book for you. Is the book perfect? Almost, but I have just one minor quibble. At times, Adam uses a little too much terminology that will be unfamiliar to the average member of the public e.g. "hypnosis is ... considered to be an independent modality of therapy that is comparable to psychodynamic, behavioural, or cognitive approaches to therapy". However, the vast majority of the book is very easy to follow, so I have no hesitation in recommending it and giving it a full 5 stars. For the record, I have no connection with Adam, but I am a hypnotherapist and have read several books on self-hypnosis - this is by far the best. Review: recommended. - good allrounder especially seeing that the author points readers to relevant research on the subject.

The best book on self hypnosis available to date.
Having purchased Adams original book on this subject, ( which was a best seller ), I was told about this book over a year ago that it was going to be produced. Adam is someone who is highly respected in the hypnosis field and one of my leading peers and who's work I have studied and followed for a number of years. I only delved into the work of Adam with his last book and this new book, has changed and added on to the subject of self hypnosis, what it is, how it works, methods to produce the results which you desire. Including evidence to back up everything which is being stated. The work of evidence based hypnosis is one which more people need to follow to be able to move this field of work forward and Adam clearly is a man who does this, and his passion comes through. I own a lot of books and other hypnosis products and this book is by far the one which must be read to be believed, I have read many hundreds of books on hypnosis and the mind and this book is the only one I would trust for a guide to how to use my mind for the better using self hypnosis. If you are serious about wanting to make changes in your life, or teach self hypnosis to others, buy a copy of this book, put some time aside to practice and reap the rewards. Then buy another copy for your loved ones who want to change their lives. Fantastic work Adam, it was well worth the wait. Kind regards Craig

Changing my Mind, Changing my Life
I have spent many years reading self help books to help me be 'better', 'richer', 'thinner' and really got very tired of them all and consequently binned a good many of them. I read Adams original book about Self Hypnosis which was fascinating and was very comprehensive and actually helped me on my journey to create the change that I wanted to achieve. His second book is better, created from evidence based practices which is extraordinarily refreshing in a number of aspects. Firstly to know that what's included within it's pages isn't just pseudo science caught up in the next new trendy self help rollercoaster, secondly that Mr Eason is clearly open to new ideas and ways of thinking himself. It's very easy to get stuck in what you believe in without having an open mind. Adam openly admits 'I am embarrassed by my first book' he no longer believes in the original model that he adhered to. Learning self hypnosis teaches you to take back some control of your thoughts, behaviours and beliefs therefore creating the change that you're inevitably looking for if you are reading this post. As a Clinical Hypnotherapist myself I recommend this book to all my clients.

The best book on Self-Hypnosis by light years!!
I have the greatest of pleasure now in actually studying with Adam Eason on his Clinical Hypnotherapy course! He has an infectious sense of humour and knows a fantastic amount about Hypnosis and hypnotherapy in general and in particular Self-Hypnosis. This book treats Self-Hypnosis as an evidence based procedure that can be learned and utilised, if practiced as set down in this book, and not as a 'special trance state' or "magical worldly experience"! Indeed once the basics of the Self-Hypnosis techniques are learnt then you can indeed go straight to the sections that covers phobias, self-confidence, etc. This is a book that can be used again and again and produce the results that you want to occur! I thoroughly recommend this book as I know it will change your life as it has mine!

A good book that could easily be turned into a great book
This rating would be 4 stars for content but one more star was removed for the terrible persentation/production. In more detail why the star reductions: 1. One star I remove based on my own view of the content. First things first this is a good book and I learned a lot from it. Bringing in Coue's convincers and approaching self hypnosis in the frame of a mind set really was a game changer for understanding what is happening. Great job by the author. What I didn't like is that the author is taking his world view as the Truth though he should have realised it is another framing. This makes for the usual arrogant certainty remarks found in people that are overly materialistic such as for example thinking that our minds are like computers that we are programming (kind of dangerous to be honest) or that the subconscious obviously does not exist. If the author happens to read this review I strongly recommend the work of Iain McGilChrist to see just how off the data such pronouncements of certainty are. 2. One more star removed for the abysmal production quality. The typography and editing of this book is literally like someone wrote it in the default settings of Word and never read it a second time. Truly an eye sore with many mistakes. The information is the information of course that is why I said above that my content rating is 1 star but I just wish a minimum amount of effort would be given to the production by the author. Some suggestions (as I know this is self published): Do not use double spacing as this is not a student essay, justify text, pay attention to the spaces between titles/subtitles etc and the text, smaller font and margins, use a more beautiful font. Just take a book you love looking at and get some ideas from it. Also, subjective, but change the cheesy book cover which I also have not idea how it related to the content (learning to ride a bicycle is like self hypnosis as you are moving/motivating yourself? No idea). Thanks for reading :)

More than highly recommended-packed with information, skills and applications-user friendly and fun!
At last ! a book that is simply right, on a subject that has had so much written about it that is plainly wrong. If you want to learn skills and progressive proven methods to improve sleep, self esteem, motivation, enhance happiness and confidence and so much more, look no further. This book is a culmination of over two decades of experience and love from the author, on a subject that he writes about with passion, clarity and practical applications. If you are to read any book on hypnosis read this one. It does exactly what it says on the tin; be part of bringing hypnoisis into the modern era - go for it!

This is an excellent book for the Hypnosis teacher and squashes many myths ...
This book is for someone who wants to understand what self hypnosis is all about. Mr. Easons sources come from literature both early and very up to date. I am impressed with his due diligence on the subject. This is an excellent book for the Hypnosis teacher and squashes many myths and misunderstandings about hypnosis. As a hypnotherapist I recommend this book as it helps the therapist with Ideas on how to best help and teach their clients tips on how to use hypnosis for themselves.

This was the book I was waiting for
His biography is too humble. I am familiar with the author's work though I have never met him. He meticulously researches a subject and tests his work before releasing it and there are few people who have delved so deep into the self-hypnosis subject. He is the self-hypnosis guy. I've watched his training course video and have seen his work demonstrated and proven. Hypnosis is accepted by the scientific community. There are over 11,000 hypnosis articles in the National Institue of Health database alone. There have been Functional MRI scans, PET scans, biofeedback tests, and randomized controlled trials. The author brings this to bear on the subject. The material is five stars and he is a talented instructor. I've personally benefitted in many ways. You profit from his aggregation of research and training. It would require a stack of reading to do it yourself in addition to countless hours of testing and training. The book teaches you to self-hypnotize, why it works and how it works. It provides many recipes for changing your behavior and thinking. These recipes can be modified and applied to other areas not covered specifically. For that reason you should read the whole book. e.g. Read about quitting smoking even if you don't smoke. The bibliography itself is a gold mine. Side note: If you are new to hypnosis, there is a point in the book that needs extra emphasis. When he tells you to believe you are an excellent hypnotic subject, really believe it. People experience hypnosis in different ways. It's common for a person to not feel any different. Watch for any little sign and go with that. When you're done, then you can decide whether you were or weren't. I've often witnessed a hypnotized personโ they can't move their feet and their hand is glued to their face and they'll look you in the eye and tell you they don't think they're hypnotized. The author has a treasure trove of free material on his web site and some audios to help you exercise your self-hypnosis skills. The book does have flaws unfortunately There is no index. The cover does not equal the quality of its contents. Had I not known of the author's reputation I may have overlooked this book. The layout is awful. A Production Compositor has skills that effortlessly transmit printed words to your mind. This book has giant type and extra whitespace in lines, paragraphs and margins that hamper my enjoyment. Headings and subheadings are inconsistently formatted. Chapter and section breaks seem haphazard and confusing. Editing. A great author is not a great editor. The exposition of the material needs the skilled mind of a professional editor. They are amazing at what they do. A copy editor could correct the spelling and punctuation errors. A talented book team could polish this into a masterpiece. No kidding. The material is gold. It deserves proper treatment. This is the most meaningful book review I've ever written.

fact based approach
This book is great! I'm only half way through it, but it gives reasons and/or research results for all claims. Hypnosis does work, but the info you generally get is a combination of really useful info and useless parts that everyone just does because "that's the way it's done". Eason ditches all of the useless stuff and gives you facts. And his example scripts are INCREDIBLE. I felt changed just by reading them. Excellent book.

The Only Hypnosis Book You Need
This is the one and only book for hypnosis that anyone should get. And I do not say that lightly. It debunks super common myths even among the normal hypnosis community such as the "magical" subconscious and takes a firm science-based approach to hypnosis that is greatly informative, effective, and needed. Cover art's terrible though. Don't even know what the publisher was thinking there.
