I have never been one for string panties because of how uncomfortable the bands are but I can say these ones are not uncomfortable at all. The material of these panties are very soft as well as the bands which allows them to be worn all day with no discomfort. The overall quality of these panties are very good with no fraying of the material and has help up in the washer even after multiple times being washed. I do size up anyway; I wear a size M or L in regular clothes (US sizes), and I usually size up to XL in underwear because I like them looser rather than tighter. I would say to trust the smaller end of the ranges on the sizing chart, but if you're in the larger end of each range, I'd size up.
