Princess Grace

I bought this to read to my 3.5 year old daughter who is starting to show awareness of differences between her and her friends at nursery. Like many girls her age, she is Disney mad and loves anything with a 'usually blonde haired blue-eyed' princess. She was slightly sceptical the first time we read this (you mean there are other types of princesses?) and it was a great opportunity to discuss and praise her differences in a harmless fun way. This is now her favourite book and she constantly tells her friends stories of all the different European, Chinese, Nigerian princesses who have important jobs as spies and ride on horses!

Nice story, but our copy seems to have the illustrations missing. I’ve seen lots of reviews saying what beautiful pictures are in this book but we just have blank spaces where the pictures should be.Unfortunately this was delivered 5 months ago and we’ve only just got round to reading it, so now I can’t do anything about it. Such a shame as I think my 3 year old would have enjoyed it, but she got bored without the illustrations.

I don't know why so many books about African Caribbean children have to dedicate a section to a broken home.Note to the author there are plenty of Black children that live with their Mother AND Father.The story was okay but the stereotypes annoyed me too much to appreciate it.

Love Books Project bought this book to send to Zambia to be used as part of our literacy programme for underprivileged children in schools and orphanages! The book is beautifully illustrated and wonderful story, the children thoroughly enjoyed reading it! We highly recommend it!

My daughter loved this book and has asked me to read it to her again and again. I like that it gently challenges traditional images of what it means to be a princess/feminine.
