There will be blood.
This is actually a very clever zipper slider replacement, but buyer be warned: there will be blood. The slider hinges open and can then be easily clamped down on the existing zipper. Easy peasy. There's one thing that you aren't told: the catch on the slider has a nasty 2 mm spike that, when laid flat, pokes though an opening on the slider, pinning the slider in place. If you have... fingers... there is a very good probability that you will stab yourself while trying to grip the slider pull. Oh yes, you will and you will bleed. The result is having to finesse the zipper pull awkwardly when zipping / unzipping one's garment. It's not natural and SHOULD be mentioned. As for me, I attempted to file the thing down / round it off, and broke the slider pull. So now I have a paper clip as the pull and it has actually improved the product.Use at your own risk.

Pay Attention to Coil Zippers
I have each of the 3 variations of this replacement zipper for 3 different coats/sweatshirts. I'd prefer the zipper pull to be looser, but since it also serves as the lever to open the slider jaws it is pretty rigid. The replacements for the metal and plastic teeth zippers slide up and down the zipper smoothly and do a good job.Today I got my 3rd variation: the plastic coil slider replacement. At first I was very disappointed as the slider was difficult to slide up and down the zipper. I had to use so much force that I thought I'd get stuck in the sweatshirt, or rip the zipper out of its seams. After taking a closer look I realized the sweatshirt manufacturer had reversed the zipper during manufacturing, which I'm sure was a style choice because the zipper lays flatter along the front of the sweatshirt. I turned the replacement slider around so the pull was facing towards the sweatshirt interior and it worked just as smoothly as the other replacement sliders I have. Since I had a replacement slider for plastic toothed zippers I tried it on my reversed coil zipper, and that solved the issue. In taking a closer look at all 3 zipper types I finally noticed that coil zippers lay on top of the zipper fabric, with the entirety of the zipper coil usually on the outside of the mounted item. Toothed zippers seem to run along the edge of the zipper fabric, with a similar amount of zipper teeth height on either side of the fabric. If I need another replacement zipper pull I will definitely buy again, but I'll pay more attention if I need a replacement for a coil zipper.

good as a last resort fix
I have a very nice ski jacket and the zipper broke so I wanted to fix it. The slider installation really worked and it snapped right into place (best feature). But there are no instructions included. The card says to go to their website which is trash - there is no search or index so you have to browse every video and it wasn't even in the list. I found it by Googling "fix-a-zipper dritz instructions". It was easy to install. The slider has a nice locking tab so it stays in position (nice feature) but that is very uncomfortable as it pokes your finger every time you use it.The slider works very poorly and I have to wiggle my zipper ends every time to get it to mate and slide. Yes it is the correct size slider. I won't keep this (for long) but I will use it like a spare tire on a car - just to get me by until I get a real solution.

EASY PEASY: SAVED MY FAVORITE COAT IN MINUTES!
Works exactly as it’s supposed to—made it incredibly easy to replace a part that was so worn that my zipper kept splitting. No sewing required. The trickiest part was cutting off the old zipper pull with cutting pliers. After that, nothing to it. Be sure to order the right kind, depending on whether your zipper teeth are brass, plastic, or nylon. My only suggestion for Dritz is that they print instructions on the back of their card packs in larger type. (This is a chronic problem with Dritz products.) The ease of ordering this kit from Amazon explains why brick-and-mortar retail is suffering: My local sewing and crafts store (huge big box, part of a chain), did not have this item is stock; the clerk told me they never do. She told me to drive to another of their stores, about 30-40 minutes away, to find what I needed, She said she could order the kit for me, but she had no idea how long it would take to reach her store because it would have to be sent from the store that had it in stock to a central warehouse in the next state, then to her store. How dumb is that? Businesses that don’t use available tech capacity to better serve consumers are going to shrink and maybe even die. Thanks Dritz and thanks Amazon!

Amazing Product... so glad I found it
I had a jacket that was given to me six years ago and the zipper finally gave out on it. I was really upset that I might lose the jacket, or I would have to rip out the old zipper and sew in a brand new one, which is a little above my paygrade. Luckily, I did a little research and discovered this product. All you have to do is match the right zipper width and make sure that you're using the right zipper pull for the right zipper material whether plastic, nylon, or metal. Once the product arrives it will come with a special tool that flips it open and you simply close it right over where the old zipper pull was. Of course you have to remove the old zipper pull first. All you have to do for that is work in a flat head screwdriver and apply torque. The only hard part was figuring out exactly how to open it but I found it online at the company's website. I am thrilled that this product worked and could breathe new life into my favorite jacket. I as really upset about htis now I feel much better.

Unfortunately it did not work. The body of the slider is hinged so you pry it open with the included tool and then install it by closing it down over the zipper teeth. This design would work if it locked into place and didn't open back up again. Each time I tried to zip it up the slide would open up just enough that the teeth of the zipper would not interlock. I am not zipper incompetent - for eleven years I worked at a company making duffel and gear bags so I've handled miles of zipper. When I finally gave up and removed the slide it completely came apart. Should have been a quick fix but was not. Thankfully the jacket has snaps so I guess I will just use them...

Easy to use
This does not come with instructions and you have to poke around their website to find out how the tool works (hint: search for the product and click on the second tab for complete instructions). Once you do that, just line up the bottom of your zipper, and clip it on. It actually took much longer to remove the old one. The size is a little confusing but it works on a sweatshirt.

Cool little size 5 coil zipper
I had received the product with the slight delay. Yet, once I opened it, I could see it is a good zipper. It would most likely work on any common size 5 coil zipper, yet mine was quite uncommon. Therefore, I didn't manage to use it, yet. I am quite sure one of the other zippers will go bad soon. Nonetheless, once you have it on your hands, you'll see it is a quality driven little zipper. Would recommend ...

Added new life to my winter jacket!
This zipper head attached easily to my jacket. It was a little hard to open with the attachement. I thought I might break it, but with extra pressure it opened fine. a 15 plus year old jacket now has new life! Would recommend this well made product!
