Niteangel Hamster Desert Bath Sand: 2.5lb/40oz No-Dust Bath & Easy to Clump

I’ve gone through quite a few sand options for my little guy’s bath time, and this sand is hands down my favorite. Right out of the bag it has a soft, fine texture that feels natural, not harsh like cheap reptile sand or grainy play sand, and my hamster immediately started exploring it. Unlike some bathing sands that kick up dust or make a mess, this one stays nice and low dust, which gives me peace of mind because hamsters have very sensitive respiratory systems. I appreciate how it doesn’t irritate his nose or eyes, and cleanup is super easy compared with other brands I’ve tried before. My hamster loves to dig and roll in it. It’s almost like watching him in slow motion when he’s fluffing up his fur. It seems to really help absorb oils and keep his coat looking clean and healthy. We’re a fur-friendly family here, with cats, a dog, and a hamster (plus two freshwater and saltwater tanks, to boot!). So I’m always on the lookout for things that can improve my pets’ environments and overall happiness. A sand bath is really a must-have for a hamster. It helps keep her clean and her fur shiny, which can contribute to her overall health and well-being. Sometimes a hamster will also use the sand as a litter box. Not always—it really depends on the hamster. These little ones can be every bit as particular about their preferences as humans! Regardless, and in addition to a large enclosure, a sand box can help encourage natural burrowing and digging behaviors. It’s a win-win in that regard. I’ve tried several different sand brands, and I’m now a repeat buyer of this one. I really like the double-enclosure packaging, and I appreciate the size and pour mechanism. It makes handling the heavier bag much easier and helps keep the sand from getting everywhere. The low dust is another huge plus! The sand itself lasts a while! Even filling a "bath" 1/2 way, you can go in and easily clump out "pee" spots. Mine has clumped well enough for me to spot, and discard, used sand. And lastly, did I mention that, as a hamster “mommy,” I LOVE anything—bedding, sand, etc.—that’s white? It makes cleaning sections of her enclosure so much easier because I can quickly spot any “pee” stains. And frankly, that’s exactly what you want to be able to find when spot-cleaning! Overall, this has become one of my go-to hamster sand products, and I’ll definitely continue buying it.

Worked great for my 2 gerbils. They seem to get more excited when this kind gets put in. Only dusty if pouring from a longer distance. Clumping, I don't see much but my gerbils use it more for play. They're still figuring it out.

Super soft powdery sand. My hamster loves it. Also helps minimize odor in the cagd. Super easy to clean. I'd buy again

I had higher hopes for this sand but I am actually kinda disappointed that it doesn’t absorb odors and urine needs to be scooped right away or it will lose its ability to clump. I end up throwing away lot. This doesn’t compare to the first sand I bought a couple years ago. At least the first day after a complete change it provides my hamster a clean place to bathe.

Having now tried both the white sand and the desert sand, I can say that the desert sand is far better. While I found that the white sand had small bits of plastic in it, I also found that it did not clump very well in comparison to the desert sand and because of this, a large amount had to be thrown out each time the sand bath was cleaned.
