Even if you don't care about horseback riding or the specific area, it's an entertaining and quick read for anyone living in Brooklyn or who wants to learn more about the sport in the early 1900s.

A fascinating look at the horsemen and various neighbors that came to populate a stretch of 8th avenue in Brooklyn. Rubin gives an extensive and interesting look inside the inhabitants (which ranged from mayors to jockeys) of this avenue. A must read for anyone interested in learning the history of Brooklyn.
