Hallowed Ground

This is a great read. Just line all of her books this series keeps your attention from beginning to the end. Don’t miss any of them you’ll be sorry!

Wow…. I just finished this 4th installment in the Flight & Glory series and what an amazing read it was. If you’ve ever contemplated what military couples and families’ lives were like, you MUST take the time to delve into this book. Josh and Ember’s story began in Book 1 and continues in Book 4. The soul deep emotions portrayed in this story could only be executed by none other than the stellar writing of Rebecca Yarros and incorporating her own life experiences. I’ve already been introduced to her books prior to this series and have come to the realization that she writes with passion, raw grit, and does not spare her readers from heartache, tears, and also memorable storytelling.Many issues are dealt with in this book…duty, honor, deployment, combat injuries, loss, recovery, PTSD, heroism, physical and emotional scars, and guilt, to name a few. How to navigate a relationship amidst these scenarios is a true challenge. Even with pure, unadulterated love, Josh and Ember struggle to navigate through life altering events, unique to military life.This story defines the true meaning of “hallowed ground” in a profoundly enlightening manner. I find there are always lessons to be learned in Ms. Yarros’ books and readers come away the better for having taken a chance with her stories.I loved this book. There is only one criticism. The hospitalization portion was unrealistic. A splenectomy does not have a chest incision. No patient would be given one crutch to hobble to the bathroom after a serious thigh wound, fractured arm, and abdominal surgery to remove a spleen after arriving in their room. Male patients are offered a urinal in bed. Also, the idea of having sex soon after an extensive injury and surgery made me want to roll my eyes. NOT HAPPENING! Other than that, the story was believable.The Audible narration was very well done. Far better than Book 3. Thank you Ms. Yarros for sharing your stellar writing skills that pens amazing stories with military undertones. Looking forward to begin Book 5!

I laughed a bit but I cried a lot! This story almost broke my heart, you will need tissues! Having said that I loved it and it was great to have so many loose ends tied up . Rebecca Yarros writes angst better than anyone else I’ve read.

Es macht richtig Sinn, die Serie mit einer weiteren Geschichte über Josh und Ember enden zu lassen. Nach ihrem ersten Buch war dieses Buch die logische Konsequenz. Perfekt geschrieben, authentisch und realistisch, es war genau das, was man nach den drei Büchern brauchte. Nun fehlt nur noch Morgans Geschichte.

I had the chance to discover the first book of the series "Flight & Glory" by Rebecca Yarros only 2 weeks ago. So I could immerse myself fully into the world of those wonderful characters, without having to wait months for the next book. By the time I started reading "Hallowed Ground", I had met and fallen in love with every of them, and I was certainly not ready to lose any of them. After witnessing them fall in love in the previous books (must read by the way), they are settling down in "Hallowed Ground", starting their adult life..Rebecca Yarros takes us into their world, the military life, the constant deployements where anything can happen, anytime.. And while reading the book, we find ourselves in Ember's shoes, feeling her unconditional love for Josh, but also her anger towards him and this consuming fear to lose him..I won't say much to not spoil the story for others, but I highly recommend this series.. It's one of those that consume your heart and soul, and when you read the very last page, the very last word, it's hard to close the book and convince yourself that indeed this is the end...Read in this order : Full Measures, Eyes Turned Skyward, Beyond What Is Given, Hallowed Ground.
