Tsurumi 2PU (50PU2.15S) 1/5hp, 115V, Submersible Pond & Waterfall Pump, Stainless Steel, 3000 GPH, 2" Discharge

This a terrific pump. Super easy to install and is powerful enough to lift the water up a 15 foot up hill climb to the waterfall. I have had a number of these pumps and they last a very long time, the only soundbisvthe water fall, and are a good value for the money. I never gave had to unclog them. I am very please with the Tsurumi pumps.

I purchased a house with a koi pond 5 years ago, and just recently the pump started failing and then failed entirely (kept tripping the GFCI). The pond was installed over 10 years prior to me buying the house, and this was the original pump, so this pump lasted for 15+ years. Honestly, I didn't want to pay the price to replace it with the same pump, so I was looking at cheaper options. None of them would either fit in the filter box or I would have to rework the existing plumbing too much. Then I found this pump used for a significant discount here on Amazon. Perfect fit (of course) and able to use the existing plumbing without any modification. The used pump arrived in the original packaging (slightly damaged as advertised), and although they claimed there was cosmetic damage to the actual pump, I didn't find any. I installed it and it works flawlessly. My koi pond's waterfall hasn't looked this good in the five years of me owning it. My koi pond is relatively small (not sure about the capacity), and my waterfall is only about a 3' rise and maybe a 15' run, but this pump is way too powerful. I simply installed a T with a return so that some of the water just returns to the filter box. Works perfect. I originally chose this method because I was thinking about creating a fountain, so I could also just use this T connection for that. The fountain never happened, but the waterfall is still nicely regulated. Anyway, you may need to do something similar if you have a relatively small application like me. I didn't have much luck with variable speed control modules, so I had to go with a plumbing based solution.

5/17/2017 update - The pump has failed. I don't know if the pump failure is a result of the "professional pond cleaning" (our last pump failed after 10+ years of running, two months after the professional cleaning. This pump has also failed two months after it's only "professional cleaning". The cleaners drain the pond and pressure wash the whole thing. I'm assuming (yes, it's an assumption) they also pressure washed the pump the same way, causing it to get water inside, and as a result the water damaged the bearings. The pump started it's failing process by making some noise, then by frequently tripping the GFCI. Figuring that the pump was done, I tried to salvage it by opening the top, draining it completely and letting it dry out, then spraying the "flexseal" stuff around all the seams and that worked for about 2 weeks (solving the GFCI problem) however over those two weeks the bearings got louder and louder and the damage has been done. This morning I found it making noise but not pumping water so a new one is going in once it arrives. My rating has changed from 5 stars to 3 stars, it does work, and work well, however like many of the other reviews it failed after 2 years. 12/23/2016 update - No change, still running strong. 2/8/16 update: Added video review. This video was taken to show the amount of flow the pump provides and an approximate size of the pond it's supporting. This pump has been running 24/7 since installation (date of initial review) and this video was filmed after the pond had been completely frozen over (with the pump still running) for about 3-4 weeks. Initial review - I'm reviewing this early and I'll update my review as time passes. Overall - this was packaged well, and was a direct replacement for our 13 year old Shinmaywa 1/5hp pump. Installation was a matter of unscrewing the output hose and check valve, putting new Teflon tape on the threads and screwing it back in. It powered up to basically silent operation and the flow is better than our old pump (which I would assume is to be expected due to it's age and the noise it was making.) It's got a 5 star rating due to construction appearance, ease of replacement, and how quietly it operates, this will be updated if there is a problem. The pump appears to be well constructed, it's very solid and has a long power lead that is of heavy gauge wire. The pond is a 1100ish gallon outdoor Koi point with a Aquascape skimmer filter and biofalls that runs 24/7/365 in a MD climate (frozen over for 30-40 days last two winters, and 90* temps in the summers. This pump is running a load of 8-10' of head height. I'll post an update in 3 months as to how it's weathering the work, 24 hours in and it's functioning great. 9/9/2015: 3 Month Update: Pump is still quiet, with fantastic flow. No causes for any concern with the function of this pump over the last 3 months. Still very happy with the purchase. 12/19/2015 - 6 Month Update: No change, still very happy with purchase. Photo is of the unit installed in the skimmer, and the pond was low on water at the time.

Decent pump using it in a fountain, bought as replacement for same model number that died after 3-4 years. Not much noise its silent when under a couple feet of water.
