Can the hood be removed to service the nib and feed?

Yes it can, I have 6 601s. Of the 6, 3 needed their nibs re-aligned to sit properly on top of the feed, and 3 needed their nibs smoothed due to being scratchy. Once these issues are addressed, they are nice pens for every day carry.
