Excellent lens!
This isn’t the “S” lens, so do not expect perfection, but it is great for the price. Some CA is sometimes present and the contrast is a bit soft wide open, but it does provide a nice “3D pop” and the imperfections actually give it a bit of character. If you want to use it for landscape, just aim for F8 and the corners are perfectly sharp on my 24MP Zf.

A 35 1.4 with character.
I bought this to be a part of a 2 lens portrait kit, to be paired with the 85 1.8s. The 35 1.4, while not an "S" lens, is still plenty sharp and renders beautifully. It's not as well corrected as it's "S lens" brothers, but that makes it a perfect lens for someone who likes a lens with "character". It does have chromatic aberrations, but these days, it's easy to fix in post. If you are looking for a Z mount 35, I highly recommend this one.

If you're looking at this, then the answer is yes.
Excellent excellent glass. I always prefer true Nikon glass and this is a clutch 35 lens. The 1.4 is amazing. With this 35 I'm okay with it not being an S. I use this primarily for video. To find differences in this and the S, I would honestly be nitpicking. This is a great lens. If you're looking for something not kit, add this to your bag.

Excellent 35mm with character, especially for the price
I've been using the NIKKOR Z 35mm f/1.4 on my Nikon Z8, and overall I've been very happy with it. The lens arrived brand new and in immaculate condition. Packaging was clean, everything was exactly as expected, and there were no cosmetic or functional issues out of the box. One of the things I like most about this lens is how versatile 35mm is. It works really well for everyday photography, indoor shots, environmental portraits, and situations where you want to work with available light. The f/1.4 aperture is obviously one of the main reasons to buy it, and it makes a noticeable difference in lower-light situations while also giving you very good subject separation. On the Z8, the lens feels well balanced. It's not excessively large or heavy, which is important because the Z8 itself is already a substantial camera. I can leave this lens mounted for a long time without the combination becoming uncomfortable. Autofocus performance has also been very good. The Z8 focuses quickly with it, and in normal use I haven't found autofocus to be something I need to think about much, which is exactly what I want from a lens. Image quality is very good, but expectations matter here. At f/1.4, this is not the kind of lens that is perfectly sharp from corner to corner on a 45-megapixel sensor like the Z8. The center is very usable wide open, but if you look closely at the entire frame, you can see that it improves as you stop down. Around f/2 it becomes noticeably sharper. That said, I don't consider that a major weakness because the reason I use f/1.4 is usually for low light, subject separation, or the look it gives the image, not because I need maximum corner-to-corner sharpness. I also really like the way this lens renders. The transition between the subject and the out-of-focus areas looks natural, and the images have a little more character than some lenses that are technically sharper but can feel more clinical. I haven't personally noticed any significant chromatic aberration in my normal use, which is worth mentioning because it's something I had seen discussed about this lens before buying it. The only thing to keep in mind is that shooting directly toward very strong light can produce some flare, and if your priority is absolute optical perfection on a high-resolution sensor, there are more expensive options in Nikon's lineup. For me, though, the combination of f/1.4, good autofocus, manageable size, image quality and price makes this a very compelling 35mm for the Z system. It pairs especially well with the Z8 if you want something fast and versatile without carrying a much larger lens. Pros: Arrived brand new and immaculate Excellent f/1.4 aperture for low light Very good subject separation Fast and reliable autofocus on the Z8 Good size and weight for an f/1.4 lens Natural rendering and pleasing focus transition Very good value for a native Nikon Z lens Cons: Not perfectly sharp across the entire frame at f/1.4 Improves noticeably when stopped down Some flare can appear with strong light directly in the frame

Very useful lens, but not the most exciting one
This is probably the hardest lens in my current kit for me to rate. I like the idea of it a lot. A fairly compact 35mm f/1.4 for reasonable money is just a very useful thing to have. Especially on Nikon Z, where so many lenses are basically tubes. For me this is mainly an evening and indoor lens. During the day I mostly use my Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 now, which completely changed the way I shoot. I used to live on primes because good zooms were either too heavy, too expensive, or just not good enough. Now I can keep the zoom on most of the day and switch to this 35mm when the light gets worse, or for events, parties and indoor shooting. And for that job it makes a lot of sense. 35mm is wide enough for people and environments, f/1.4 gives me the extra light I actually need, and the lens is still compact enough that I don't hate carrying it. I also really like that Nikon even offers something like this at this price. There are not many similarly wide and bright full-frame lenses that are also reasonably compact and affordable. But image-wise, this is probably the most boring lens in my current kit. My Tamron and especially my Viltrox 85mm often produce images where something just looks interesting – colors, bokeh, rendering, whatever it is. I look at the photo and want to keep looking at it. The Nikon 35mm usually just looks... normal. The colors seem natural, the bokeh is there, the image is perfectly fine, but it feels more like a lens for capturing the scene than for creating some special look. And I definitely don't get consistently great results from it yet. Sometimes the photos are very good, sometimes a bit soft, and I've had quite a few autofocus misses. Part of that may be because I usually take this lens out exactly when the light is already bad, and I'm still learning how to configure the Z6 III properly for those situations. So I don't want to blame the lens for everything yet. I just can't say this is one of those lenses where every second photo makes me go "wow." It doesn't. But it is light enough, bright enough, wide enough, affordable enough, and useful enough that I still keep reaching for it when the sun goes down. Maybe that's exactly what this lens is: not exciting, but very useful.

Ok not great
This lens is ok but my example doesn’t have the magic that the 50mm 1.8 does.

My favorite lens for everyday and travel use!
This lens rarely comes off my camera since I've received it. It's smallish size, fast AF performance, and amazing optical character makes it perfect for everyday photography, environmental portraits, and for me it makes a wonderful travel lens. I own several "S" lenses as well, and other than the lack of weather sealing, I haven't noticed any lack of performance, comparatively. I actually prefer the way these 1.4 lenses render images over the higher quality "S" lenses. Amazing bokeh and performance!
