This is the best general introductory book on Ethiopia
This is the best introductory book on Ethiopia and covers as much bases as possible in a way that is fair and balanced however it does give a little more attention to certain actors compared to others but this can be remedied simply by doing further reading.

Without doubt this is an important and classic work , a must for all who want or need to know more than the current negative famine, drought and poverty driven image Ethiopia and its peoples suffer throughout the world media. If you want to know why Ethiopia is a great country with a rich history and an amazing variety of cultures and languages, if you want to know why so may people fall in love with this country this book is for you. The serious student of Ethiopian peoples will by all probability already know and appreciate this classic volume.
