This compact WHO'S WHO offers an engaging introduction to the contemporary Indian art scene, inviting readers to explore further the artists who capture their interest. It provides glimpses into a range of compelling and often unconventional works—including surrealist expressions such as those by Gopikrishna.

Much needed volume on Modern Indian Art.
As Prof.B.N.Goswami's "The Spirit of Indian Painting" dealt only with the period upto 1900, this book covering later Modern Indian Art is especially welcome. However one wishes that the artworks themselves were full page & the text shorter.

Misleading title & descriptor
This book, rather than being "an illustrated history of Indian art", is simply a compilation of short one-page biographies of Indian artists. There is only one artwork (barely half a page) per artist depicted. Extremely misleading and disappointing.

Value for money.
Great binding. Excellent paper, superb printing. Excellent colour photographs of one painting of each artist featured. Comprehensive selection of artists. The writeups of each artists are detailed but succinct. The author has a writing style all her own. Font size is comfortable. A great introduction to Indian art. I'm so glad I ordered this book. It arrived in great condition too.

Great listings
This book is like an extensive directory of the who’s who of indian art and introduces one to all those artists who matter in the art world…though I do believe some very important artists are missing… but then if one can get to know even all of those listed here one can say with pride that they know quite a bit about indian artists. The author has taken a lot of trouble to put this together for all us art enthusiasts. As far as the printing goes…while the cover is printed well the inside pages could have been way way way better! When showcasing art, images of the art are the most important part. But the printer has done zero justice to the art. Colours are so dull it’s not even like Newspaper quality printing. Paper quality is questionable too but I guess a low gsm was used to keep the width of the book block reasonable. Printing quality aside, this is a great book to have in your collection. One can always google the artists listed to see their work online in its full glory! I’m glad I have it in my collection.

Only black & white illustrations
While everything else about the book is good, the main bit, the illustrations of art are a big disappointment. Not in their official colors but a black and white print.
