Kastking does it again..
Can’t beat this budget reel! I paired it with the Fiblink Moonsniper 9’ and it’s a great combo. I’m still learning to use baitcasters but I really enjoy using this one. Once you understand how to set up your kastking rover, it’s actually fairly easy to use! I have used this reel now for about a year.. I didn’t take the best care of it, by rinsing the salt water off every time I used it. Finally after all that time I decided to clean it and grease it and to my surprise there was little to no corrosion from the saltwater! The quality and durability, the look and feel of the reel is all great! The drag system works for me.. I see some reviews where they’re trash talking the drag system but it hasn’t failed me yet. Sometimes I even use my thumb to help slow the line being pulled out, instead of adjusting the drag mid fight.. The bait clicker is easy to use and I love it. The best thing about this reel? It’s affordable!!!!! It’s great quality for anyone! No matter if you’re on a budget or not! You will enjoy this reel, and if it just so happens it doesn’t work the first time, try it again! Just make adjustments as you go! If the first one you buy is defective (it happens sometimes with any product) in any way, return it for replacement.. I have so much fun using the rover40L! Update for the Rover 60: the reel handle knobs SUCK!!! Mid fight the foam grips popped off!! Not sure if it was because of the slight rain, or that I was pulling in a crab.. either way change the double knob to a power knob Asap!! I believe you can buy one already with it (70, 80, 90 sizes come with it I believe, if you select that option). The reel itself did a great job, just not the double handle.

good reels
first impression. sitting in my living room, these reels are everything I had hoped they would be. I bought the 40 size to use on a couple trolling set-ups for landlocked salmon and lake trout in northern New England. They are smooth and appear to be well built. The end caps are sturdy and solid, not the tin foil caps I've seen on other low cost reels. the drags seem smooth and they appear to have plenty of capacity for small reels. I will try to remember to post a further review after I've used them a little. Full disclosure, I've been using KastKing reels for several years and love their products.

Great value on a nice quality round baitcaster.
Good quality build, great value. Only thing I would change is the casting drag location, but I'm sure it is where it is for a mechanical reason. Casts far, holds alot of line, and is sized well for control. Pulls lures well also.

I feel in with it on the first Cast
This reel is the SAUCE! It did take me forever getting it spooled up. I guess that’s because I’m used to using smaller compact bait casters (think largemouth bass fishing). I use 17 pound mono with a 10lb braid backing. The rod is a Favorite - WhiteBird. I don’t know if it’s this particular setup but it “throws” incredibly well. Once you dial in the reel tension, it cast so smoothly out of the bail. I am impressed!!! Especially at this price point. The construction is so primitive, I can’t see any parts failing on it. It’s like an old FORD, the darn thing just runs! You have to give this reel a try! It really blew me away!

Keep looking
I researched what I wanted for flossing sockeye salmon with during my upcoming trip to Alaska, and my daughter then got me it for me as a Christmas present. The reel didn't even make it through one day and didn't fight very many fish. I had a nice one on and the drag could not reel when it counted(I'm a seasoned fisherman with good knowledge of what to expect from a real). Eventually the reel completely gave up the grapes on the same fish and I ended up losing it. Now I have a worthless reel that can only free spool and the return window closed long ago.

I wanted to believe in kast king...
I bought the kast king rover 40 left handed reel for salmon and steelhead fishing in the pnw and at first it did great. It casted good, had smooth drag and a smooth retrieve, and I even landed a mid 20 pound chinook salmon on it. But on the 5th outing, it started having problems. Out of nowhere it started making a grinding sound (even with clicker off) and stopped casting smoothly. The spool seemed to have trouble turning. It even locked up mid-cast, even with 2oz of weight! It cut my trip short and was even hard to pull the line out even when the cast button was pushed down. I thought maybe somehow something got inside of it so I pulled the spool out to see if that was the case but unfortunately it was clean as a whistle in there. It had ample amount of grease inside and was a seemingly perfectly working reel. So I am sending it back and receiving another one. Luckily it broke before the 1 month deadline, and I was able to request a new one. I really wanted this to work but unfortunately it failed me. I will update this after I use the new one for a while

Decent quality so far
Used it and caught 3 fish. 15lb mono. Really nice reel. Feels very smooth and natural for the price I'd recommend it. No birds nest and easy to adjust the weight of lure / bait.

Can't beat it for the price
I rarely, if ever, buy rods and reels separately, as I prefer the simplicity of purchasing a combo. However, I ended up buying this for two reasons: 1. I wanted a baitrunner reel for catfish that I could order in a left-hand retrieve (nearly impossible to find on catfishing combos). 2. I wanted a somewhat small reel that would fit nicely on my Abu Garcia Vengeance casting rod (I don’t like the long, thick handles that are standard on catfishing combos, so I prefer to use a robust bass rod). I purchased this reel in the 40 size, and it has been exactly what I was looking for. It fits great on my rod and casts well. Line capacity is much better than expected (200 yards of 30 LB braid), and the bait runner, while quieter than expected, works well. I’ve been using it with a Santee Cooper rig (with 1/2 oz weight and 8/0 circle hook) to target medium sized catfish and have had zero issues. In general, I would say this reel is a 4/5. However, for a reel of this price, it is a 5/5 and probably the best option on the market.
