Omron is one of the most trusted brands for home blood pressure monitoring. The monitor in Omron HEM-7124, which is a genuine and commonly used automatic BP monitor. However, the accuracy of the device and the BP reading are two different things: The Omron monitor itself is reliable when used correctly. The reading shown (178/109 mmHg, pulse 62) is still a high blood pressure reading, regardless of the brand. To improve accuracy: Sit quietly for 5 minutes before measuring. Avoid tea, coffee, smoking, or exercise for 30 minutes before the test. Keep your back supported and feet flat on the floor. Take 2–3 readings and use the average. If repeated readings remain above 160/100 mmHg, you should contact your doctor, especially if you are already taking BP medication.

The readings are not accurate

The monitor is easy to use, the display is clear, and the build quality is good. However, I have noticed that the readings are consistently 10–15 mmHg higher than those taken with a manual (analog) blood pressure monitor. I tested it multiple times, and the difference remained. This may not happen with every unit, but it has been my experience. I expected better accuracy from a trusted brand like Omron.
