The quality of the thermometer itself is really nice. It has a good heft to it and feels like it will stand up to the rigors of grilling.The cradle is very well thought out. I love the storage on the bottom for the thermometer puller. Nice touch. I am not sure on the batteries. I've been getting a lot of rechargeable tools lately that are generally rarely used but necessary when needed. On those I prefer just batteries so I don't have to worry about maintaining a charge. I think in this case, I do like the batteries, because I'm not using this every weekend or anything. Most of the stuff I grill I can just go by experience.The cradle is the charger is the wireless base. The range is pretty limited. It seems to be about 20 or so feet in my instance. I haven't really tested it. I did have it cut out when I left the base in the kitchen and went to the grill. I just moved the base to just inside the window near the grill (between me and the grill), and I had plenty of range around the den and kitchen. Unless you need to drive out of state or something, it should work fine.I do have a ceramic grill, so I probably fare better than those with aluminum or steel grills.The setup was very very easy. Much easier than I'm used to with these IOT/lifestyle phone app products. BONUS: They do not require an account to just use it. THANK YOU. Requiring accounts for everything has become the most annoying aspect of "connected" products.

The design of this thermometer is quite a bit different from it's big name competitors. Which in and of itself, is totally fine. The base takes actual batteries, and then it charges the probe, kind of like earbuds. You have to keep the base near the probe, but it's magnetic, so this is an easy thing to do. That being said, it's fairly finnicky. You need a very clear (and short) line of sight between the two. When I finally found a good place for the base, it stayed connected fairly well for 8+ hours. I just found it a little bit frustrating to have to baby it so much.

The old saying of "if you're looking you're not cooking" is the very nature of pellet grill/smoker cooking. They don't hold heat like a standard barbecue so whenever you lift the lid to check you lose both smoke and heat. It definitely effects the overall results from your grill the more you check.This thermometer makes lifting the lid unnecessary so it is fantastic. The range is decent, the temp is accurate, and the overall setup is easy.Overall, extremely pleased.
