Not really a toy! But a great product
My 9 year old daughter has ADHD and although it was a little expensive we took a chance on this product and I'm very glad we did. It is good for anyone who has trouble with managing time. You set the time and when you press start the green light comes on and a sound of choice, I use the 'begin' voice sound. On auto after 80% of the time the light changes to yellow and there's another sound to indicate time is running out, then at the end the light changes to red and there's another sound, I use the 'time's up' voice sound. There is also a manual mode where you can set the percentage of red, yellow and green light. The traffic light system combined with the sounds have been a real winner for our daughter, we use it mostly at bedtime to set her time for reading before she goes to sleep, but have also used it for other tasks. It gives her a tool to manage her own behaviour and gain a degree of autonomy and I haven't regretted the purchase once.

Robust and effective
I use this for children who have ASD to give them a sense of control over time. Traffic lights and alarm are great. Programming can be a bit time consuming, but it's robust and can survive being thrown!

Very good product
I love this. Does what it says on the box. Very handy for any activity that needs to be timed. The only annoying thing is having to set the times separately for the green, yellow, red lights as you have to go though each light in order to get to the next. So for e.g. if i wanted to change the timer on the red light, i have to go through the green and yellow timers first before getting to the red. It would be nice if there was a separate button for each traffic light so that the required timer can be selected directly. However it shouldnt stop anyone from buying this as it is really good. Note* Needs 2 types of batteries as one is for the LED display.

The best buy for an autistic child EVER
I always leave an honest review, and I usually have an improvement or two that could be made. However, this has proven to be the most valuable tool in our household, without a doubt. My son is 5, autistic, needs to know exactly what's coming and is rigid in his routines. The time tracker has become the sole reliance for him to understand when something starts, is nearly over, and when something has to end. It changes from green, through yellow and finally red. It also has the benefit of a countdown on top, which my son finds useful and enjoys (he loves numbers). There is a short tune that plays in between the colours and another at the very end. It is extremely useful that this has a volume control for those autistic people who may be sound sensitive, like my son, who prefers a lower volume. USEFUL TIP: My son is very sensory and quite light sensitive, so I was glad that the lights on the timer do not reach all the way around. As there is no option to dim the lights, I turn it slightly into the wall so that the light does not affect him as much. There are numerous options and it is quite tricky to get to grips with it to begin with, but once you've got the hang of the controls, you're good to go. There is a timer option, which you can choose how long each light colour will last for, very useful for those who struggle with ending a task as you can prolong the red colour. And there is an auto timer option, whereby you set an amount of time and the timer averages out how long each colour should be (red being the shortest), this works for my son, but may not for some. Before the time tracker, we struggled with telling our son when something was about to begin or end (bathtimes, iPad, time to get dressed, how long before we go out), he would constantly ask "how long" without really understanding time. Life has become so much easier since we bought this brilliant tool! It seems pricey but honestly, it's worth more than its weight in gold and I'm certain this will be a brilliant resource to any parent or family with a child who struggles with time, whether autistic or not. Edit: my son is now 10 and doesn’t need this as much, we now have a two year old daughter with suspected autism that I will test this out on… watch this space!!

Defective and seems to be the case with other users
Seriously disappointing I ordered one and Sunday, tried with new batteries, set the clock 3 times before realising anything as I thought I was resetting myself anyway managed to set the timer got the light on green and then moments later light went off looked and that’s when I realised it was automatically resetting clock and all. Created a return and ordered another. Returned the first on Monday and received second order today. Tried with new batteries whilst this one does not reset - there is no sound! The thing makes a sound when green but going to orange it’s like a buzz and then to red no sound at all. There should also be an end sound again no sound! Yes I’ve got the volume to the top - nope this does not work! I decided to read reviews and have seen so many have the same complaints!! Are they just reselling items that are sent back as new, even when returned as faulty?! I’ve just this 15 years ago when the school I worked it had one it is basic but I liked the fact that the kids actually worked well with it. I know it is pricey but I was willing to pay and gift it to someone who is autistic and it would have been perfectly suitable and well used. Shame I can’t seem to find a store that stocks it and Amazon seem to have dead ones piled up!

Very good product
This was bought to help both my children manage time better when playing games or doing other tasks that require concentration. I have to say I like this product as do my children. It appears good quality, well thought out, easy to use and comes with clear instructions. It takes four AAA batteries but can’t comment on battery life as not had it long enough to know yet. I have had it on auto setting which manages the time that the different lights stay on green 80% etc but you can also manual set if you want different time segments. If you make a mistake setting timer and want to stop it then you press and hold the menu button. There is also a hard reset button just above the mains cable jack. Power cable is not supplied though but that doesn’t bother me as want it to run on batteries anyway for portability. The lights are bright and it makes a sound each time it changes segment. All in all very pleased with this, it is a very good product.

I have a four-year old who loves to dally. When she wants to get a task done, it only takes her 3 minutes, but sometimes she can go for 3 hours and still not have it finished. Trying to set limits on her is difficult, because she doesn't really understand the concept of time yet. Using other timers, even cute ones, has always resulted in a major meltdown, because she feels as if her time is almost up from the moment we press start - even after repeated assurance that she has more than enough time to complete the task at hand. This timer has worked miracles in our house. . . she knows she's being timed, and that when her time is up there will be consequences, but as long as the light is green, she stays on task and doesn't freak out about it. Being able to set a warning bell/light is genius - she understands that now is the time to rush to get it done before it goes red, and though from time to time we do have orange-light meltdowns, they've been far less frequent than with our old timers or with no timer at all. It has made a huge difference. Having a concrete thing to mark the end leads to much less arguing and begging for a little bit more time. You might be able to sway mommy with tears, but a timer is a machine - when it turns red she can't plead with it for more time. Life has gone on much more smoothly for us since we got this awesome little timer! You'd think she'd hate it, but she actually really loves it, and ASKS us to set it for things that we wouldn't normally. I DO wish that it could be set for smaller increments - at least that the warning light could be set in single minutes instead of increments of 5 - so that we could use it to mark when it's time to give someone else a turn with a toy, but as it is, I love it and highly recommend it to anyone going through a similar problem. We use it mostly for room cleaning (it doesn't take 4 hours anymore!), getting ready to leave the house (be ready in 15 minutes, shoes and all!), to set limits on time spent on her computer, and to keep her in her room during quiet time - she doesn't come out every 3 minutes anymore, because she can see that it isn't time yet!
