If you are looking for a great cage with a Sunhood, HDMI and USB-C cable clamps, your search is finished. This is the best cage currently on the market. In fact, the only competing BlackMagic Design Video Assist 7" 12G HDR cage that was also worth comparing had been discontinued by SmallRig. In fact, when the SmallRig was still available, it did not include a USB-C clamp and was at a higher price. The cage has an excellent fit to the 7" 12G HDR and has easy accessibility to the ports and power on the Video Assist 7" 12G. In addition, the Nitze Cage provides a large number of mount points for the display including NATO rails on the top and bottom as well as 1/4" holes with adjacent locating pins (keeps accessories from twisting) and also 3/8" and a cold shoe mount on the top left corner. The Sunhood attaches using velcro to allow easy setup and takedown after recording sessions. Provides excellent coverage and easy access to the display for interacting with the touchscreen. The sunhood is useful for more than use outside, indoor recording sessions where you don't want the display to distract others to the sides of the camera is also a great benefit. I use my rig for theater and event recording, I like the sunhood as it prevents me being a distraction to those that may be seated near I'm recording from. The function of the clamps is easy to operate an is compatible with a large number of HDMI and USB-C cables. Easily adjustable to those different sizes and retain a high level of protection for those ports. The cage provides excellent stability and protection for the Video Assist 7" 12G by providing the locating pin or NATO rail connections for monitor mounts or magic arms. Without the cage, there are 1/4" mounts on the Video Assist 7" 12G, but have no locating pin holes to prevent it from being loose. A real nice touch to the cage is the labeling of all the ports on the cage for easy visibility.

I was looking for a sun visor for my 7" BMD Video assist and didn't want anything that used adhesive to attach to the monitor. I was surprised that a monitor this expensive did not include a visor as many of its less expensive competitors do and I was a bit hesitant on this visor as it is not cheap. But I am so glad I purchased it. Not only does it mount perfectly on the Video Assist but it also has a very easy to install/remove visor that is well made and not flimsy. Just 4 small Velcro straps through the slots on the frame and you're in business. But aside from the visor that I was looking for the other things that really impressed me about this unit are the overall build quality and vast options for mounting additional accessories to the monitor. I am able to use the top cold shoe connection to easily attach a shotgun mic and wireless receivers can be attached to the sides if needed. There are threaded ports every where on this frame. And the sturdy build provides an extra layer of protection if the monitor were to be dropped. And one final nice touch is the etched port labels on the frame that identify all of the video assist connections since the labels on the monitor itself are covered by the frame. Overall a very impressive piece of gear from Nitze.
