Excellent for people in the Go
This brilliant portable travel router is a must-have. I use it with a VPN while traveling for work to give me access to my home network while I'm away. It's lightweight and compact, runs directly from a USB-C cable and works perfectly with phones, laptops, and other devices. The build quality is excellent – it's strong, durable, and compact in size.

AVOID!
Dreadful - never works as intended - constantly having to reset & even Amazon warns "Frequently Returned due to incompatibility issues" - TP-Link ustomer service isn't the best either - AVOID!

Pretty good
I bought this as a cheap and easy way to extend my network to my upstairs pc and have its own wireless connection so I could play VR games. Works flawlessly and also has even given me better coverage downstairs. Build quity is what you would expect, perfectly fine and looks decent. Only reason I give it 4 stars is because I can't power the wireless through the USB port in the PC and have to use a wall socket. I get good enough wireless speeds and my wired speeds are perfect.

If you travel a lot with your devices, seriously consider this router.
If you travel a lot, either with work, or with the family on holiday, this TP-Link TL-WR1502X Portable Router might just save your sanity. Before a family holiday, you can sit at home, with a cup of coffee and connect all the family devices, the phones, laptops, tablets, iPads, Steam Decks, portable printer etc. Then once you get to your destination, switching on the router will connect all the devices to a secure local network, the printer will see the laptop for example. Then all you need do is either plug the router in to the hotel ethernet port, or log in to the router's management page, scan the Wi-Fi networks, find the hotel guest network, connect the router, and viola, all your devices are now connected to the internet via the Portable Router. If you have not used a TP-Link device before, they have very intuitive menu interfaces. The one for the TL-WR1502X is particularly good, and even Muggles will be up and running in minutes. The other tech gobbledygook is handled by the router automatically. There are some really nice extra features offered by the TL-WR1502X. You can set up a router VPN (virtual private network), so if you were in a country that blocks say, Netflix, you can just swing your connection back to your home country, and enjoy all the entertainment accounts you have. You can even connect back in to your home network in your house, if you know what you are doing. So you could be on the far side of the Earth, but your devices all think they are back home. TP-Link also do an app called Tether. This app is very good, and lets you manage all your TP-Link devices, including the TL-WR1502X. You can do everything in Tether, from rebooting the device, to setting up your devices to either the 2.4Ghz or 5Ghz Wi-Fi channels, to maximise performance. You can even tell the router to give priority to the games consoles, if they are active. There are also all the usual parental controls, so internet connection can be time-limited to the children's devices, if you wish. And the beauty is, on your next family holiday, all you need do, is make one connection to the new hotel network/Wi-Fi, and you are up and running again. A good travel router like the TL-WR1502X is pretty much a vital necessity these days, for the travelling business person, or family holiday. Several YouTubers did full performance reviews of the TL-WR1502X. They found the radial signal strength to be good, and the router radiates a strong signal upwards. So, if you are renting a two-storey holiday house, the router is best placed centrally on the ground floor, for best coverage. The final feature, that might earn you some free drinks at the hotel bar, is the router offers a guest network feature. So, if you find yourself befriending the hotel neighbours, and they are not getting on well with the hotel Wi-Fi, you could set them up on a separate guest network from your travel router. The two networks will be completely separate from one another. Just make sure to get a free dinner out of it. Price versus performance versus features, the TL-WR1502X really is a no-brainer. Highly recommended.

Does the job, once you get it working. Can often need resetting
I can see why this is marked as often returned. I eventually managed to get it to work with my mobile phone for a hotspot, but it often takes 5-10 minutes to negotiate the connection properly, and sometimes needs manually resetting. Great for travelling but not for long term genera use. I still am glad I have it, but I only use it when I am away rather than for a permanent feature like adding an internet connection to my car - it failed here due to the need to keep resetting it on long journeys

A must if portability and reliable connection to public wifi is essential.
This is one of the more significant purchases that I have made to assist me whilst travelling. Its abilities to tie all your devices onto one network as you would have at home has simplified things enormously. Its portability especially when connected to a power bank has made camping trips and using devices on guest wifi a breeze. You are also able to install your VPN onto it, so security can be built in and automatic. Initially the option wasn't available, but if you connect it to your home wifi, eventually a firmware update will be offered and it changes the feature set of the router entirely. It is probably the most versatile router I have owned, including my Eero at home. To illustrate how good it is, I arrived at a Holiday Park in Italy where signal was particularly weak. So much so where we were placed you couldn't sign into the network. I moved the router to where the signal was stronger and using the Tether app (the companion app for the device) I signed into the network, I then moved the router back to where I was staying and the router remained connected to the network. As I write I'm connected to the router via 5 devices, two laptops, two iPhones and an Alexa Speaker, all working with satisfactory speeds. It's removed the frustration. The perfect combination would be this router paired with a 20000mah power bank, which potentially will run the power bank for 24 hours rather that the 10-12hrs that my 10000mah power bank is achieving at the moment. I recommend this product without hesitation.

Works as described
Excellent travel router. Many reviews of this on here are hopeless. This little router does everything advertised. Currently using it away connected to a hotel wifi, running it as a wireguard client, all devices connected to it are using the tunnel (you can configure this in settings). Good range for wifi, nice and small size. Anyone who can't setup this up properly can't read.

Portability is misleading
Bought for travelling. We tend to take the minimum we can. So having the usual power bank for phones and things away from power sockets, and a sellers picture showing this router working off grid, you think yes, seems a good idea. But it won't work on a USB power bank with the 5V outputs. Which is pretty much all power banks. And 5V to 12V USB power converters are no match for the 18W power demand. Probably best for those with big suitcases visiting hotels, you can take the power socket needed. Disappointed with TP-Link, have a lot of their gear and normally it's well thought through.

Good internet speed
Would not connect on Android phone, I had to use an iPhone to set up, once connected to iPhone othe phones and computer connected without a problem, very small and will be great for travel purposes

Amazing!!!
This router is absolutely brilliant and has all the features of a premium home or small business router. Obviously it can not handle hundreds of clients like aforementioned routers but it could certainly run a home with no issues at all. With VLAN, VPN client and server capabilities, this router is about the best there is available on the market for a travel router!

Better valued product
Solid product for a travel Router. The only downside is that whenever I switch between Router, Hotspot and AP mode, the router needs to be restarted. And each mode needs configuring from beginning. Everything else is too good.

Improves the Hotel WiFi experience but at the cost of some luggage space.
Handles both hotel WiFi authentication portals and wired iPhone hot spot usage very easily. Plenty fast enough to stream video from laptop to Android TV devices, Didn't use the app, the web browser controls it just fine. If I could ask for any feature it would be a smaller form factor. I'd love to see a version with no ethernet ports that would fit in my suitcase better.
