A Single Malt Shrouded in Smoke
Regrettably, my experience with the Talisker 10 Year Old Single Malt was anything but satisfying. Talisker’s attempt at balancing boldness and delicacy seems to have gone awry, in my humble opinion. The nose offered a strong, peaty scent which, although expected from a product of the Isle of Skye, was quite overbearing, leaving little room to appreciate any other aromas. The promise of subtle notes of the sea and heather were overwhelmingly drowned by the heavy peat smoke, which seemed more like an intrusive fog than a welcome feature. The finish, enduring in its robustness, was again dominated by the peat smoke. Any potential complexity was quashed under the repetitive theme of smokiness that refused to relinquish its stranglehold. In summary, while the Talisker 10 Year Old Single Malt might be a welcome companion for enthusiasts who revel in a full-frontal peat smoke experience, its overwhelming characteristics made it challenging for me to discern and enjoy the subtleties that I believe should be integral to any single malt’s profile. This is a whisky that, in my view, needs to find a better balance to truly shine.

Not any reflection on the whisky.....
........which is great and at a bargain price. But this is the umpteenth time now I have waited in for a delivery, followed the tracking info and been waiting by the door at the supposed "time of attempted delivery" and there has been NO ATTEMPT TO DELIVER. No ring on the doorbell. No knock at the door (I was right by the door only a few feet away with no noise or distractions). Nothing! FFS! HOW MANY TIMES DO I NEED TO COMPLAIN ABOUT THIS? Ah well. Maybe better luck tomorrow.

Please... don’t buy this.
This whisky, in my opinion, is bloody revolting. This tastes exactly like Molton Brown’s Black Peppercorn shower gel. You think I’m joking. From the bottle it just smells like a smokey whisky. But as soon as it hits the tastebuds... PEPPERCORN BODY WASH! Even tastes a little soapy. Wouldn’t be surprised if some of that Molton Brown was added in the distilling process. With my best efforts to disguise the taste with coke, it still failed to taste anything close to pleasant. I don’t even think an alcoholic with years of drinking could muster the strength to finish a bottle. But as i say, this is my opinion. However! If you like whisky and it’s subtleties, don’t buy this. Buy The Cotswolds Distillery’s Whisky.

Gone Downhill; Peated Paint Stripper
It’s deeply disappointing to see how much this has declined in all respects but price (a sin for which much of the grossly overpriced Scotch single malt market is guilty). This is immature and one dimensional whisky: hot pepper, vanilla, vaguely saline peat, a bit of citrus; thin on the palate; finishing faster than Usain Bolt; artificially coloured and chill-filtered. Not a patch on the Talisker 10 releases of yesteryear and yet another example of modern Scotch’s ever-worsening price-to-quality ratio. Once upon a time, youthful whiskies like this would have been top-dressed with – and much improved by – much older stock. No longer. This is overpriced on offer but pure robbery at full price. Diageo, the multinational behind Talisker and many other Scotch distilleries, should be ashamed.

Medicine Taste
BLUF: Taste likes cheap cough medicine. Avoid! I normally like to take a punt on Amazon discounts - trying a single malts to establish if it's worth the spend at full price. This type of method does result in a number of hit and misses, but taste is subjective so I normally don't comment. The Talisker 10 year has broken my normal comment torpor with a drink so vile that I may save it for unwelcome Christmas guests. In an unwatered measure Talisker 10 year has an aroma similar to germolene and a woody antiseptic taste - not pleasurable and unpalatable enough to stop it being used to take the edge off a hard day. Avoid.

Honestly, it’s awful!
Having just finished my first bottle of Talisker I thought I’d try another in the range, opting for a more pricey version, I am massively disappointed; I won’t be finishing it. If you want to know what it reminds me of, Bells (yes the cheap toot) with salt added. It’s also fairly similar to laphroaig which I find tastes and smells of TCP. I’m just frustrated that when there are so many whiskies in the £30-£50 bracket that I would love.

Not for me but everyones tastes are diffrent
I purchased this whiskey due to the reviews. To me this whiskey it has a very medical taste to it very much like TCP but it was very smooth. I spoke to a very nice lady at Talisker one to make sure it wasn't contaminated or faulty. She explained to me that it the medical taste come from the influence of the peat used in the manufacturing process and that I must have a good nose. I wouldn't not buy it based on my review some people like hot curry some people don't. Try it and I hope its for you.

Without doubt the worst whisky in have ever tasted!!
This whisky tastes like methylated spirits, it is undrinkable. I can only think there must be something wrong with it as no one could possibly drink this and think it’s nice. Unfortunately my return and complaints window has passed so I’m now stuck with something I can’t do anything with!

Great drink at a reasonable price
On Black Friday I bought this on special. Have tasted this in the past. Lite peaty and smooth drop when mixed with a dash of water or cube of ice. Waiting for next special to buy few more. :):)
