Zebra Pen SARASA X20 Retractable Gel Pen, Black Ink, 1.0mm, 12-Pack

Alright, I’m currently going to write this review while I’m at work, which is where I use these. It was a bit of a risk since i couldn’t find a smaller pack of these 1.0mm and had to commit to the $15 for a dozen. So basically, if I didn’t like these—I’m stuck with them bc I’m not someone who goes through the refund process. I just accept my losses unless it’s a huge dollar amount. Now I normally like the Pilot G2 bold 1.0, but as a lefty—the ink smears quite badly. I’ve heard these are really good for use south paws, and I work in an office at my job and do a lot of paperwork, so smudging on documents and signing business checks is not a good look. And yes, I know ballpoint pens exist, but ugh … I’m spoiled to using gel and ballpoint just feels so blah now. Anyways, to not make this any lengthier — yes, yes, yes! These are awesome pens and I think I like them slightly better than than G2. The writing is inky and bold, and there’s no drag. Also, the most important thing you’re wondering if you’re also left-handed— very little smudging! What do I mean? Well, it doesn’t smudge on paper, but I have a very slight smudge on my hand. I write fast, so this is much nicer than when my G2 smudges all on the underside of my hand AND the paper. I’ll take it. Also, if I were to get this in a smaller point (0.5 ICK or 0.7), I’m sure it’d truly be smudge-proof. I’ll stick with my 1.0mm and have a little tiny ink stain on me though. This was money not wasted and tbh, the price point is really good for such a wonderful pen! One downfall is the ink is used up quickly. Takes me about 1.5 weeks to use a full pen writing 5 days a week vs using a G2 which would take me about 3-4 weeks. I have plenty tho and it’s worth it to me for all the mentioned reasons above. Don’t think on it, just do it. I might get the blue ones next!

These are equal or better than G210 pens. They are bold and blue! Will buy them forever!

Writes smoothly with a nice bold line. My only problem with these is my coworkers and kids stealing them.

If you haven't used a Sarasa ball point pen, you don't know what you are missing. The pressurized gel provides a smooth and consistent line, easily outperforming normal ball point pens. These particular pens have a wide, bold, 1.0mm roller ball, which produces a thicker and more pronounced line than a normal (0.7mm) Sarasa pen, or a standard ball point pen. The effect is like writing on top of a magazine, versus writing on top of a hard desk. These pens have a wider point of contact, and it just feels better. Plus you get a result that stands out, and is more clear, than writing from a normal ball point pen. Best of all, these amazing pens are quite affordable, while easily outperforming most of the expensive classic brands.

This pen really glides when you write. I have a tad bit of arthritis and don't like to put a lot of pressure into my writing. This flows easily and when I underline passages in books or in a notebook, this ink is resistant to bleeding through to the other side, unless of course the page is way too thin. I especially like the 1.0 mm black because it is bold, which works well when writing notes that I want to copy later. Just know that the lines are thick so you may have to write more clearly than when using the .5 or .7 mm gel pens. I really looked around at different pens and until my daughter gifted me with the Sarasa Zebra gel pens, I hadn't found much that I liked. I like these. Here's a hint for students: Take notes in a .5 or .7 mm pen, blue ink. Then, when you study, go over your notes with these 1.0 mm black Zebras and you can quickly emphasize what you want to remember.

Solid dense lines.

I bought a 12 pack of these. Upon trying the first pen, things were very promising. It produced an extremely smooth, visually wet, consistent jet black line. I really liked the color, and the boldness of the text. Fast forward 2 days later. I reached into my pocket, and noticed wet ink on my hand. As suspected, the first pen was leaking badly. I had 11 more, so I just chalked this one up to abuse... Maybe I sat on the tip with the refill extended? Who knows? I kept the body, threw away the refill, and moved on to the next pen. This one wrote just as nicely. I ended up giving it to a friend, and he wrote his heart away for several days until it was empty. He said it was consistent to the last drop. On came pen #3. This one was acting up from day one. The first thing I noticed was that, while still being the familiar jet black, The ink had no wet look to it. It was like writing with a cheap stick pen. It also had a habit of "skipping", where a straight, continuous line (for example) would have random sections where there was no ink. I tried drawing circles on an alcohol swab (to clean the ball of debris), heating the tip of the refill, nothing would solve the problem. Pen #4 was lost (delivery job) before i could give an opinion on it, and Pen #5 was acting the same way. It still writes thin, but I managed to get it to stop skipping. So far I've been through almost half the box, and I've only had 2 "good" pens. I wonder if the bulk packs are a lower quality to begin with, so that they can be sold cheaper? Where else are you going to get 12 name brand gel pens for 10 bucks? That's almost too good to be true..... oh wait, it was! Also, in hindsight, I have found the 1.0 size to be too thick. After trying other pens, I noticed that I had to write REALLY slow with the Sarasa, or the text would overlap into other letters, and certain letters that should have loops in them (lower-case e) ended up looking like one big blob, most of the time. After my experience with this pen, I'm not sure if I'll ever try the Zebra brand again. In my frivolous pen shopping, I found one standout contender. That is, the Pentel Energel series. I bought a 5-pack of these, around the same time as the Zebra's and I'm still on the very first one. No leaks, no skipping, just a perfect line, every time. They're not check-safe, but you can't have it all.

My wife and I have been using the Zebra Sarasa Gel pens for years. It is the most dependable and streak-free writing pen we have ever used. My wife is a nurse and prior to most all of her patient charting being changed so it could be entered electronically, she had to write everything. She would go through 2-3 pens a week, that is a lot of writing!! Her writing hand used to cramp and hurt constantly only because of the amount of writing. Her chore was lessend by the use of this pen. It writes very smoothly and never blots or streaks. I used them in my daily writing needs and bought 4-5 boxes at a time at our local office supply store for $13-$14 a box. We don't use them at that rate now, but when I saw them on Amazaon for $8 a box I jumped at them. If you do a lot of writing by hand, this is the pen for you. And at $8 a box it is a steal.

Those pens that I have used so far are OK, compared to the others I bought at the same time which did not work properly. Given my experience of this company I will not buy from them again.

This is my favorite pen ever. It glides over the paper and leaves a nice, thick, solid black line. Not too thick, mind you, but just right for my taste. I've also tried the 0.7mm version, but with my writing style I find the 0.7mm tip bites into the paper too much, whereas 1.0mm flows effortlessly. As a lefty, I was concerned with smudging but as long as the paper you write on isn't too glossy, the paper will quickly absorb the ink and dry in no time. It even does quite well on semi-gloss, such as the Rhodia dotPad paper which, for technical work, is hands down the best and complements this pen perfectly. Come to think of it, I should stock up on a few boxes of this pen in case it's ever discontinued. I don't know what I would write with otherwise.
