We follow James Anderson, who is older now and pulled right into the middle of all the chaos, politics, and lingering control while the New Republic is still fighting the lingering Reestablishment. At the same time, we are following Rosabelle, who is still working within The Reestablishment and dealing with her own struggles, loyalties, and the weight of the choices she is making. When their paths cross, it becomes clear very quickly that nothing is simple. As the story unfolds, secrets start coming out and the pressure just keeps building. Rosabelle is torn between what she has been taught to believe and what she is starting to feel, especially as her connection to James grows. Meanwhile, James is forced to face hard truths about the world around him and about himself. It is a mix of action and emotion with that constant feeling that someone is always watching, while really digging into trust, freedom, and what it actually takes to move forward after everything has fallen apart. Watch Me completely pulled me in from the start and did not let go. The chemistry between James and Rosabelle is electric. It is not rushed or overdone. It just builds and builds in a way that feels so real and so intense. The push and pull between them had me hooked the entire time. Every interaction felt layered with meaning, and I could not get enough of it. Rosabelle’s internal struggle is one of my favorite parts of the book. She is constantly pulled in different directions, trying to protect her sister, trying to do what she believes is right, and at the same time fighting her increasing attraction to James. You can feel how trapped she is, and it makes every choice she makes feel heavy and important. That emotional weight paired with the romantic tension just worked so well for me. And Tahereh Mafi’s writing is just stunning. It is vivid, immersive, and honestly feels almost lyrical at times. The way she describes scenes and emotions makes everything play out so clearly in your mind. I could see it all, feel it all, and that made the story hit even harder. This was an easy five star read for me and I am already wanting more.

Tahereh Mafi is one of those rare authors who transforms language into emotion. Best known for her Shatter Me series, Mafi brings a unique and poetic voice to young adult literature. Her writing style is unmistakable—introspective, fragmented, and brimming with metaphors that either feel like whispers or screams, depending on the mood of the page. Diving back into the Shatter Me universe felt like slipping into an old pair of shoes—familiar and comforting after being away for a while. I tore through the original series last year, and it’s been living rent-free in my head ever since. So when this new book was announced, I was over the moon. And I’ve got to say, it really kicked things off with a bang. The characters in this world have carved out a permanent space in my heart. Every time one of the originals appeared, I couldn’t stop myself from smiling—and I was so happy to see how often they showed up in this book. I want to avoid too many spoilers, but there are two moments I have to talk about: Warner becoming officially a dad—my heart!—and the heart-wrenching news that Kenji and Nazeera have gone their separate ways. A full ten years have passed, and James, our once-little brother, is now grown. I adore him. He’s such a beautiful reflection of those who loved him, yet he’s clearly his own person. He’s torn—trying to be a protector while navigating his feelings for Rosabelle, the broken girl he’s now responsible for. Rosa really caught my attention—she’s a new character, but there’s something so layered and human about her already. She works for the Reestablishment, yet her loyalty is clearly shaken by the way her little sister Clara has been treated. It feels like her resistance is simmering just beneath the surface. We’ve only gotten a glimpse of her so far, but I can’t wait to go deeper into her story. She has the potential to carry so much emotional weight and make choices that truly matter. The dynamic between James and Rosa crackled with tension. I appreciate that their relationship leans into the slow burn—it makes the emotional payoff all the more rewarding. And when I say slow, I mean achingly so. Just as their interactions began to thaw and move away from pure hostility, everything unraveled. This is enemies-to-lovers done right: Rosa is a government mercenary who literally killed James at the start, and yet, he still approached her with care and tenderness, seeing the person beneath the mask. Their chemistry? Off the charts. The fantasy layer of this story really pulled me in. Mafi has such a unique way of structuring her worldbuilding—it’s never confusing, but there’s always just enough left in the shadows to make you lean in closer. I was burning with questions about the Reestablishment’s deeper intentions. The choice to make synthetic intelligence the antagonist was a bold move—and it paid off. I was utterly absorbed, and I can’t wait to see how the story unfolds from here. This book felt like Mafi was just vibing with her faves—she didn’t hold back on the banter, the jokes, or the sweet OG content. Plus, she turned up the heat with all that slow-burn emotional drama in the new romance. And you know what? She ate—and so did I. I was living for it. Absolutely cannot wait for the next one!😍😍

I love the Shatter Me Series and I think the New Republic books are wonderful as well. this book is so good and i’m so ready for the next books. i definitely recommend!

I have been on a binge of the shatter me series, and I thought it was over when the last book of Juliette and Aaron Warner (sigh) finished. But I was elated when I found she was still writing them, and that this current book was about James. And he's all grown up into a buff hot guy. I love grumpy/sunshine combos, and I feel so bad for Rosabelle. She's just trying to survive, and everyone thinks she's just a bad guy, but she has so much trauma, my heart just breaks for her. James has his own trauma but he keeps it hidden, and jokes and smiles so no one knows the dark feelings he's battling. And OMG Kenji has only gotten funnier. The dynamic between him, James and Warner had me cracking up. I used to not like Kenji in the first books, it seemed like Tahereh was trying too hard to make him the comic relief, but now it's natural and not cringe/forced. Her writing has also matured and doesn't make me feel like I'm reading about teenagers anymore. Plus Warner is in his 30s now, and as a woman in her 40s I feel less dirty about loving him. I love the twists at the end and I can't wait til the next one that's going to be released in April. I'm so glad I didn't read this one until later, and now I already have the next one preordered. But this time I'll listen to it on Audible. This spin off is so good, I think I even like it better than some of the first books. But Aaron Warner you can do no wrong in my eyes!

Watch Me is a spin-off of the Shatter Me series and WOW - as a huge fan of the original series it delivers all the dystopian drama, tension, and slow‑burn chaos I hoped for. Set ten years after Juliette and Warner’s rebellion, we follow James Anderson, who somehow manages to infiltrate Ark Island… even if it lands him in a prison cell first. And then there’s Rosabelle Wolff - the assassin raised under constant surveillance. Rosa is cold and guarded (for very good reasons), while James is more impulsive and open, and their dynamic is everything - messy, intense, and definitely leaning into that enemies-to-lovers energy. The whole vibe is intense, romantic, atmospheric, and full of that “who can you trust?” energy. The world feels even darker and more claustrophobic with Ark Island’s Big Brother‑style control. Themes of survival, control, and what it means to hold onto your humanity really sit at the heart of the story. Overall it is gritty, emotional, and packed with tension and chemistry. If you love dystopian romance, morally grey characters, and high-stakes slow burn, this one will absolutely pull you in

I read the entire Shatter me series last year and it was frustrating that I had to wait since November (when I read “Believe Me”) to read the next book in this incredible dystopian universe. Every page, every chapter, every freaking damn word was brilliant, perfect, necessary. And it has felt like bring back this story that has been stuck in my mind and heart since I began it more than a year ago. “HAPPY RELEASE DAY FOR WATCH ME!” says my mind, even knowing I won’t find out how the story continues until spring 2026…

The book was amazing and the Deluxe Limited Edition is stunning in daylight !
