YRS-314B Soprano Recorder, simulated Ebony finish, Baroque fingering, key of C

I am a music teacher, and I wanted an instrument that sounded good that I could play all day. This instrument is it! The sound quality is great. It sounds just as nice as a wood instrument. It is also very durable and lasts through three to four hours worth of daily playing.

I had the alto in rosewood finish. I ordered this one, too. I don't know how, but this one sounds better than the rosewood finish. It is the same model. It is just a different finish, so I don't believe the finish makes a difference. The one with the rosewood finish is a few years older so maybe they have made improvements. This one has a clean, pure sound to it. I liked it so much I ordered a soprano which I usually avoid due to the high pitch. It has a nice, clean sound, too. I would definitely recommend this recorder.

I wasn't sure what to expect when I ordered my Yamaha YRS-314B soprano recorder. My prior experience with "plastic" recorders and flutes had not been a positive one. I'll also admit to a bit of snobbery as well. Having played handmade recorders from different types of wood (pear, walnut, oak) I was coming from the school of "it can't be any good unless it's a piece of art". Boy was I wrong and happily so. My Yamaha has a great sound and tone. It's easier to maintain and clean than my "artwork" versions and is consistent during play. Don't let the price and "plastic" frighten you. This is a great instrument to learn to play. I've played it at church in a recorders group and it sounds as good as, or better than, its wooden counterparts. Very reasonably priced and it came with a cleaning kit. All around great.

This recorder is very nice. I didn’t give it 5 stars because I expected slightly higher quality for the price.

Great recorder with crisp reedy sound and impeccable intonation. Not a fan of the ebony woodgrain pattern that is a bit exaggerated with big long zebra-style stripes , that make the look very artificial.

I've been playing with a cheap Yamaha recorder for a while because I didn't really think the instrument made much difference; I thought the quality of the sound only had to do with the skill of the musician. When my husband and I ordered these, I decided to play his for a while because I just knew I'd want to return mine and save the money. After playing his for 5 minutes I knew these were keepers! These have a nice mellow sound, and unlike wooden recorders, you don't have to break them in gradually. I love the sound. It is taking me a little adjusting to the English fingering, but no big deal, it'll come. The recorder came with a zippered sturdy cloth carrying case, not draw string like the less expensive recorders. Well worth the price!

Was a rank beginner when I started playing recorder and now would rate my self on the intermediate level. Started out with a cheap recorder ($5) but upgrading to this instrument made all the difference! It blows easier than the cheap student models, plays into the top register without issues and the sound is much less "shrill" than on the cheap recorders! For the money it can't be beat! I'm playing with an adult recorder group (we're all on the same level) and everyone but one person has gone to a Yamaha YRS-314 model and the entire group sounds better! Can't say enough about the value of upgrading. Stating the obvious: the plastic is easier to take care of than a wooden recorder and the price difference between wood and plastic is a no-brainer!

It's my first recorder. Easy to learn, no problem even with my small hands. Very high notes didn't sound so great at the beginning, but it improves over time, so I suppose it's a player problem rather than instrument problem :)

This recorder is made of plastic, but does not look cheap. The tone is bright, accurate and easy for high octave. Far easier to care than wooden one. My daughter has been playing this recorder for church service with many good comments. She used to play a basic wooden recorder, but likes this one far better.

Quizás soy yo pero la siento muy parecida a la normal de escuela, difícil de controlar las notas agudas quizá con más práctica, eso sí está muy bonita
