Impressive Portable Espresso Maker with Real Extraction and Travel-Ready Performance
I use this CERA+ portable espresso maker multiple times a week at lunch for espresso or Americanos, and I recently relied on it during a trip as my primary espresso machine for making lattes. Overall, it performed extremely well and exceeded what I expected from a portable unit. What stands out most is that it allows for a true espresso-style extraction. The basket is well designed and consistently produces solid shots once dialed in. Most of the external components are metal, which gives the machine a high-quality, durable feel. While I assume there are internal plastic components, nothing about the build feels cheap. The self-heating function works reliably and doesn’t take long to bring water up to temperature. If you start with hot water and skip the heating cycle, you can pull a surprisingly high number of shots on a single charge. There is some learning curve involved. It can take a bit of trial and error to dial in a good shot, which is expected with espresso in general but worth noting for anyone new to the process. After a few months of moderate use, I’ve also noticed a faint clicking sound when extraction begins. At this point, I’m not sure whether that’s normal or something developing over time. It hasn’t affected performance, but it’s something I’m keeping an eye on. Battery drain is noticeably higher when using the heating feature, which is expected given the power required.Despite those points, the overall performance and convenience are impressive enough that I still rate this 5 stars. It delivers real espresso in situations where that normally wouldn’t be possible. This is an excellent option for travel, work, or anywhere you don’t have access to quality coffee equipment. Paired with the CERA+ portable grinder, it makes a very capable on-the-go espresso setup.

My 5 major concerns—espresso only warm temperature, doesn’t fully extract water. Plus more issues
So disappointed. Does anyone else have all these concerns?????I’m sending this machine back, hoping I was sent a lemon!! Might try to have it replaced???20 grams of extra fine coffee which Cera recommends , will not fit into the coffee area. I cannot twist the bottom on when I try to use 20 grams. So I try with 15-16 grams.Second- my machine extracts about half of the water, so I double click it 2-3 more times to get all the 70 ml of water out of the water area.Thirdly, the temperature of the extracted espresso- even when I start with hot water, comes out at 97 degrees F to 127. I like hot coffee, this is barely warm.My fourth concern is I never get any crème- not a drop from the extraction. My fifth issue, when I tried 80ml hot water, the steam popped off the top lid when heating up.With this many issues, I better look at another brand.

Stop wasting time & BUY THIS ONE!!!
Man this unit DID NOT DISAPPOINT!! Initially is bought a cheaper brand for on-the-go espresso. I’ve a small place and no room for a big unit. It failed miserably and broke after 2 uses. Lesson learned. You get what you pay for. So I bit the bullet and bought this one. A bit out of my price range but they said it comes with a 1 year warranty. I should have taken a picture of my first shot. So beautiful. I like homemade iced oat milk espresso. This is better than the coffee shop! I’d almost say I think my shot may have come out just as strong or maybe even stronger. Maybe I can update my review later to include the next shot of espresso. Do yourself a favor and BUY THIS ONE! Waste no more precious time. Trust me.

Amazing coffee. I have a Jura home coffee maker and I would put this coffee up against my Jura any day.

Great for travel/camping, can even heat water itself, capsule attachment would be nice
I’ve used a number of portable espresso makers since my student days, and this is the first one I’ve used that actually heats the water. If it does the heating itself, the battery only lasts for a few shots, but with externally heated water, it lasts a very long time.A typical problem I’ve had with other portable espresso makers is that the water cools down a little bit between pouring it in and starting the espresso-making process. The result tends to make espresso slightly sour.In contrast to others, this espresso maker can heat the water inside the tank. It can therefore begin brewing right away, overcoming the water-temperature issue. Since it measures the water temperature, I think pouring heater water into it and then using the internal heating mechanism to ensure it’s at the right temperature would work too.The instructions give a grinding range, and they recommend started with the coarsest level within that range. I did that, and it was clearly too coarse, as the brewing process was quicker than I expected it to be, and the result had a thin crema with a slightly sour taste. That result is clear evidence that the grind was too coarse, but it turned out surprisingly well, given that issue. It will take some trial and error to get the right grind, and I’ll update this review if there’s any new information. On the negative side, making an espresso with this espresso maker is a fairly involved process, especially if you grind the beans yourself, as I do. Whilst it is nice to have the flexibility of using any beans, and of controlling the grind etc., I’d like an attachment that would allow Nespresso capsules to be used. Making espresso from beans or even pre-ground powder really requires a kitchen-like setup. An option of using capsules would be very convenient when in a car, train, plane, etc. The only requirement would be water and a place to discard the used capsules, e.g., a bag. Without capsules, it is possible to use this espresso maker once in that sort of environment, if you prepare it in advance, so everything except water is in the machine. Using it more than once, however, is likely to be difficult or impossible without something like a sink to rinse out the used grounds. The case is nice for carrying the espresso maker, but there’s a lot of empty space in it. It looks like there might be room for something like a small grinder, but a grinder isn’t included with the product.Overall, this is an impressive portable espresso maker. I’m happy with it, and I can recommend it.
