Smartoo 7L/236oz Stainless Steel Dog Water Fountain for Large Dogs & Cats

I never expected to be writing this review, because my pets showed no interest in this super quiet fountain when I first set it up. But after a day or two, I noticed they started drinking from it. Now, it's their favorite water! When I tell my dog to get some water, she has to go over to the kitties' space down the hall rather than her old water bowl in the kitchen. I have since ordered another fountain for her since we live in a hot climate and the more available water, the better. Highly recommend this product. One thing to watch for is that you need to keep it 1/3 of the way filled or it automatically stops circulating and a red light appears. So maybe get a larger capacity tank than you think you need for a few bucks more.

I’m giving this 5 stars to be seen more! But I would say it would be a 3.5 in my book, it is really easy to clean, quiet, keeps the water fresh, and the level is seen to help (there’s a blue light to say it’s filled and red when needs more water) my one major knock on this product is that the original pump died on me no longer than 3 months in use. That’s ok when getting a pump fountain it will happen, got a replacement, then around 6months I noticed the top starting to RUST. RUST IS TOXIC TO PETS. This is with daily use. Monthly cleaning (if not the germs from the pet’s mouth will cause algae to grow). I’m not sure I can just replace the top of this fountain (probably not) but with it rusting at 6 months of use (bought back in Dec 2024, it is end of Oct 2025) it just isn’t a product that is worth long term. For the months I’ve had it I loved it but rust isn’t a joke and something I’m not willing to deal with being in the veterinary field and seeing many cases come to the ER from rust or algae.

I have tried at least (counts on both hands) 9 different fountains for my two dogs and three cats. I've tried larger ones, hoping they wouldn't need refilling as often (they are too awkward to carry to the sink to clean), smaller ones hoping they wouldn't be as difficult to carry (they get slimy and need constant cleaning and refilling). So far, this one is the best, although not perfect. The size is very good. All five of my furfamily are well hydrated, so this gets a lot of use. With this size I add about 1/2-3/4 of a large pitcher of water a day. Because of the design of the top, you can add water directly to the top of the fountain, you don't have to remove the top, like I did with other fountains. That makes it much more convenient. I also very much appreciate the window that allows you to tell how much water is inside. There's a small light on the pump that stays lit blue until it gets too low, then it turns red. Or I guess it does, I never let mine get that empty. It is easy to take apart and clean, which I do about once a week. The filters are easy to change and they aren't super expensive, which is good. Stainless steel is the only way to go for a fountain, in my opinion, as it's easy to keep clean and more hygienic than plastic. The fountain is extremely quiet. More than almost all the others I've tried. That is good, unless you enjoy the burbling of falling water, which drives me insane. Addressing the lifespan of the pump, which I've seen mentioned in other reviews: this is a tiny little pump that's also used in very small aquariums. It should never be run empty or with less than constant water flow. They are not particularly robust and will burn out very quickly without water. They aren't expensive to replace and I always keep at least one extra around for that purpose. It's just a fact of life. Should they last more than a few months? Yes, but sadly, sometimes they don't. This type of pump is in virtually every fountain I've tried. Some are top discharge, some are side, but they are all basically small aquarium pumps. I doubt there even exists an industrial-grade pump of this size. A few things that would make this much better: When it arrives, the tube that leads from the pump to the lid is too long. You would have to bend the tube to get the lid on, which would a) make the blue light shine in the wrong direction and b) kink the hose, inhibiting the water output. Neither of those are ideal, so you'll need to measure and cut the tube to the correct length. Indents on each side of the water tub would make it much easier to carry the fountain. As it is, it is awkward to carry and if it's full of water it's easy to spill. Please, for the love of all that's holy, someone come up with refillable or at least reusable filter housings. Every time I change a filter I can't help but think how much I've contributed to the trash problem on the planet. The fact that every water fountain uses a different style and shape of filter that all do the exact same thing is absolutely ridiculous. It couldn't be that hard to make them reusable. While this one doesn't use any hard plastic (which some do), the filters are still wasteful and won't biodegrade. Bottom line: This is the best I've had yet. I may get a second just so I can rotate them out or maybe so the furbs have more choice in where they get their water.

It’s a good water fountain for my 3 dogs. They drink water all the time. I love the fact this filters the water so it stays fresh for them to drink. I hope it’s durable if the pump stops they’ll have no way to get water that does bother me.

I have now had this model for almost a full year (2 weeks out from a year) and its still going strong. If you are having a problem keeping these clean you cant just wash them with dish soap. I wash it with soap then run a vinegar/water mix (pretty heavy on the vinegar tbh) for 30 mins to an hr. Then I empty it run it with fresh water for 30 mins and then I empty that and set it out with fresh water. I do this every time I change the filters and I have yet to have to throw it out. Worth the $50 and its the longest lasting one I have had. Vinegar for the win 🏆

Works great for a multiple cat home. Ive had it for 17 months now and the pump is just now failing. I think that's reasonable for the price paid

bought it in October of 2025. Set it up 2 1/2 weeks ago. Stopped working. HOWEVER, I thought I'd take the pump apart per instructions. I didn't see anything clogging it. but when I plugged it back in, it started working. So I am perplexed, but keeping an eye on it. I did submit a 1 star review saying it stopped working, but am changing it to reflect the new info.
