A new, twisting thriller from the #1 New York Times bestselling author of The Teacher and The Housemaid ! She's looking for the perfect man. He's looking for the perfect victim. Sydney Shaw, like every single woman in New York, has terrible luck with dating. She's seen it all: men who lie in their dating profile, men who stick her with the dinner bill, and worst of all, men who can't shut up about their mothers. But finally, she hits the jackpot. Her new boyfriend is utterly perfect. He's charming, handsome, and works as a doctor at a local hospital. Sydney is swept off her feet. Then the brutal murder of a young woman—the latest in a string of deaths across the coast—confounds police. The primary suspect? A mystery man who dates his victims before he kills them. Sydney should feel safe. After all, she is dating the guy of her dreams. But she can't shake her own suspicions that the perfect man may not be as perfect as he seems. Because someone is watching her every move, and if she doesn't get to the truth, she'll be the killer's next victim... A dark story about obsession and the things we'll do for love, #1 New York Times bestselling author Freida McFadden proves that crimes of passion are often the bloodiest… Review: 4.5 stars. Liked everything about the book. - The Boyfriend By Freida McFadden 4.5 stars Good book, well written. Pleasant characters. Twist surprised me. I used to rarely find authors who could surprise me which is why I am bingeing my way through Freida's books. Sometimes in between after a few Freida books I read a non-Freida thriller just to try and make her list last longer. Sometimes I'll read a couple. But usually I'm disappointed and I come right back to her. The last author who gave me this same feeling of not knowing where I'm being led was actually Sophie Hannah. But her books are a much bigger time commitment. Freida's books are a much easier read. Right now I can easily read a book or more a day if life doesn't get into the way too much and the book is not too depressing or irritating or boring. I sprinted through The Boyfriend in a few hours so it's definitely one of the good ones. Review: Twisty and addictive thriller - "The Boyfriend" by Freida McFadden is an addictive and twisty psychological thriller that will keep you on the edge of your seat till the last page. The story has dual POV (Sydney and Tom) and dual timelines (present and past) which intersect perfectly in the course of the novel. The best thing about any psychological thriller is how unpredictable it can be and on this ground, 'The Boyfriend' scores a perfect ten on ten. The novel needs to be read for the big jaw dropping twist at the end. Freida's writing is razor-sharp, with a deep understanding of the human psyche. The characters are complex and multi-dimensional. I loved how the author has tried to show criminal psychology in the course of the novel. The plot is perfectly woven, with enough twists and turns until the very end. We are going with 4 stars 🌟🌟🌟🌟 If you enjoy psychological thrillers with complex characters and twisty plots, "The Boyfriend" is a must-read.

Fast-paced read
It's one of those thrillers that gets its hook into you, and you cannot stop reading. I like how the story plays out, and never lags. It's one of those serial killer stories that will stay with you long after you're done reading. Cons I think the book could have done with better editing/writing. At many points, my interest in the book waned cos the writing was just tired, or half-baked, like the author wanted to finish writing a page and didn't really care. As someone who loves good writing, this really disappointed me and took away from my enjoyment of the book. For me, the test of a great thriller is whether I can crack it before the big reveal. I did guess the killer fairly ahead of the reveal but the book still surprised me. My take: if you're looking for a pacy thriller and aren't too bothered about lazy writing, this is a pick.

Very addictive
Still the gripping intense plot. Love the intensity of the small town lives, the high school students and their lies and evil entitled monstrosities. What's so shocking is that so many crimes happening and none of the towns people is aware or notice them. Why should it be so sinful and unforgivable for drunkard men to beat up their wives and children BUT acceptable and allow teenage children to go around mass murdering, and go unpunished. Disappointed that TOM succumbed to the psychological serial killer and did not have strength to break away and report her. He was intelligent smart man, gave up his desire to be a surgeon, became a pathologist instead and moved away but the toxic love would not leave him alone and he could not do anything about it. In this day and age, lot can be prevented. Saving the criminals is a huge no, no in my opinion. Typical of McFadden books, the 3/4 of the story is mundane incidents until the anti-climax ending in the last few pages, leaving the reader deflated. We need lot more explanations into the minds of the evil outcomes. An Author needs to think, talk and write like their characters, evil, crazy, intelligent, stupid, comical, childish or serious. Still, wonderful book unputdownable. Wish Freida will not waste away so many good intelligent MEN, who should stand up against the crimes.
