Follow the path of the Filipino knife fighter and the blinding blur of the deadly balisong in motion--its whirlwind lethality--can be yours. Three experts, having combined their knowledge of the balisong, martial arts and self-defense, show you the basics of techniques perfected in the Philippines over the course of 400: concealing, drawing, flipping and gripping the balisong; checking and rolling; and the four main phases of training. The Patterns and Knife Movements Were Easier to Follow
Well written book. I wish the flipping patterns were better described. It might just be my understanding. When it came to the patterns and knife movements it was much easier to follow. I did enjoy the book and refer back to it when training.

Great Balisong book
Balisong: The Lethal Art of Filipino Knife Fighting by Sid Campbell, Gary Cagaanan and Sonny Umpad is a great volume amongst the numerous Filipino martial arts books that emerged during the 1980s. This volume includes sections on the background and history of the balisong knife. The use of the balisong as a “fist load” is featured, offering a less-lethal application of the weapon. There is a section on flipping the balisong, a particular source of attraction for this type of knife. The book introduces a sequence of movements called the “Seventeen Slashes of Death” that includes various slashes, as well as thrusting techniques. The experienced Filipino martial arts exponent would recognize the first five movements of this sequence as standard among the striking patterns of various FMA lineages. Training phases, using sticks, follow the Seventeen Slashes. These training phases effectively illustrate the intimate link between stick, blade and empty hand usage in the Filipino systems. The book features many practical applications against the knife, as well as other weapons, in the latter segments. It is in these applications that this particular volume stands out, as the Filipino fighting arts are especially noted for their utility against any type of weapon in an encounter. One clearly sees how similar movements can counter attacks with a knife, a heavy stick, broken bottle, chain or machete. Highly recommended! – Review by Jose G. Un classique
