Can I use anything else to drink it, the draught machines are very expensive?

no I,m afraid it needs the perfect draft machine you could maybe order one of the other types of barrels on amazon

Amazon showed this as bought frequently with krupps "the sub" torp system yet this is incompatible? Can this (6 ltr hoegaarden keg) be manually used?

No, only works with PerfectDraft systems

How long do the kegs last before going out of date?

Before connecting to your Perfect Draught Dispensing machine there is approximately 4 months shelf life and after you connect set your display to 30, giving you 30 days fresh ale. Hope this helps, there is a use by date on the label of your 6ltr keg.
